Looking for a big space combat game

I'm in the mood for commanding a fleet of ships and watching them fight and take over the galaxy. 2 games seem to jump out in this regard: Homeworld 2 or Sins of a Solar Empire. Any other suggestions? Both look fun, but Sins of a Solar Empire looks like it might be also just be a fun new game with some new features since it came out 5 years after Homeworld2.

Homeworld 2: Came out in 2003, but still looks sharp and has mods where I can make a fleet from some of my favorite TV space fleets: Star Trek, Star Wars and BSG.

SofaSE: Looks newer, but I don't know anything else about it.

Thanks for any feedback. If someone can recommend a better game than either of these 2 please let me know! I'm Jones'in

I only have Sins from those and havn't played it much, but a friend of mine, who is a huge fan of space 4X games, is playing it all the time (alternating between the venerable Master of Orion II), so it must be pretty good.

You can type "sins of a solar empire" into the youtube search and you will find quite a few videos there, which should give you a good impression.

It's definitely a good game, if you like games of this type.

It does have a bit of a learning curve, though, and is fairly hardcore. Not a casual game, as far as I can tell.

There are also two or so small expansions for it available (for download or with a compilation), so you might want to look for the compilation, which contains all of those, if you want to buy it on DVD.

Bye
