Ennie-ness of ENworld

This query, well thought really, is prompted by the ongoing but often sidetracked thread "Subscription levels dropping" with a sidelong glance at the poll/thread that I noted but didn't read, "Do we want one dominant game, and why?"

What proportion of the Ennie nominees have been discussed (quite apart from lauded!) at Enworld?

Does this tell us something?

Given the selection process, I don't think it clearly tells us much at all. These awards are not like the Oscars or the Emmys, where the awards are typically won by the biggest, most popular things in the market. The RPG hobby has in it more games and products than anyone could ever fully use or play, and I think most of us only have so much money to spend on products - we can't be completionists about all games everywhere.

Thus, there are apt to be very good products out there that we don't hear about. That is, in large part, why the Ennies exist! Raising awareness of good products is most of the point of the exercise.

Few. There has been discussion of some books and products I've missed I'm sure of that. But this is still mostly a D&D board so items like D&D and Pathfinder get talked about but not even all of their stuff does.

And I glanced at the nominee list and it looked like a Pathfinder fanboi list with some other stuff thrown in and promptly went elsewhere.

Again, I started, read the first couple, then skimmed the rest seeing they all had Pathfinder stuff skipping mostly current D&D stuff and promptly closed the thread. I don't know all what was even listed because what I saw turned me off due to a "bias" I saw in nominees.

That doesn't mean Paizo puts out a bad product (they put out a very good one, IMO) but the listing of nominees turned me off regardless of the quality of any of those nominated.

So, in essence, they nominated a bunch of Pathfinder stuff, so you decided the rest of their nominations couldn't be good picks?

When you yourself admit that Paizo puts out good products, you decided that the prevalence of Paizo nominations was not because the company just put out a lot of good stuff this year, but because of bias?

Well, that's your choice, I suppose. I hope you can understand that it does sound a little odd.

Hmm...

Can't see the wood for the trees is the phrase that comes to my mind.

Looking at the lists again, Paizo basically gets one nomination per category but that's a 1 in 5 hit rate.

My initial response was pleasure at seeing Pelgrane Press items there. Looking again, the stellar performance seems to be by Cubicle 7 - with several multi-nominations in categories including three for product of the year.

I don't assume from this that it's a British Indie-press stitch-up! I guess this stuff might be good. Unfortunately I don't have a FLGS in whoch to browse through the books to get a feel for them. Does anyone have comments on their works?

Here is the list of submissions -

I suppose you might believe there is something there that should have been nominated but I would find it hard to believe that there has been something nominated that doesn't deserve it.
