Thri-Kreen Info Request

Quick: I need info about the role that Gender plays for the Thri-Kreen of Athas (or anywhere else in D&D).

Discretion appreciated, thanks in advance.

FWIW, the racial entry for Thri-Kreen in the Dark Sun Campaign Setting book doesn't say much besides noting that male and female names are interchangeable. Google turned up that they generally treat males and females the same, but didn't explain things like reproduction, whether the genders have a 50/50% distribution or are unequally distributed, whether they mate for life, etc.

There are male and female thri-kreen.

Males and Females have practically identical appearences. Gender is identified among thri-kreen by pheromone detection.

No part of thri-kreen society, aside from mate selection, is dependant on gender.

Kreen mate for life (which is only about 25 years anyway) and select their mates at around age 4, which is the age of sexual and physical maturity for kreen. It isn't out of the question to select a mate before maturity. The female will lay 10 to 30 eggs roughly 30 days after mating. The pack will stop for several days to allow this, usually at an ancestral graveyard. Quote: "This is the only time when a female thri-kreen is treated any differently socially than a male thri-kreen." These eggs hatch 60 days later. Jeral packs will coordinate their wanderings to be in the area when these eggs hatch. To'ksa don't bother.

Gender distribution is even.

There is one very rare subrace of thri-kreen, the Tondi, who are all hermaphroditic. However the four minor subspecies are completely unknown in the Tyr region. Only the To'ksa and Jeral are known there. The Kreen depicted in 4th Edition art are practically all Jeral (no antenna) and To'ksa (antenna). The other subraces lived to the north of the Tyr Region which was in 2nd edition a vast "empire" of nomadic kreen tribes, but it seems much of that territory has been repurposed in 4th edition.

So, some more questions still left for me:

a) what ages might a PC Kreen likely be? Less than 4? How much older?

b) do Kreen only select mates at age 4? In other words, might older Kreen still be looking for a mate? Do they divorce? Do they re-marry?

I know, lots of weird specifc questions, but I'm trying to get my handle around their psychology so I can make more "realistic" PCs.

Find a PDF if at all possible, or scrounge your used book stores. I bought mine in a book store for less than ten bucks.
