the low sales of Apple TV support that hypothesis (the counter to that is Apple did not really promote the earlier AppleTV productline).

On the contrary, reports are the new iteration of the Apple TV is selling out in stores right now. That may be a matter of low inventory off the bat, or it may be the Apple fans rushing to get it early. But whatever it is right now the sales aren't low, it is too soon to say what it will be. I still think the killer feature set for Apple TV will be AirPlay come November (they say).

I like that Google TV is getting rolled out as a feature in televisions, like Sony is doing. I'm not going to pay that much extra for a TV to have the features Google TV offers built in. As a built in feature it needs to be in far more TVs. And the price of standalone Google TV boxes need to come way down, Logitech's set was, what, $299? Make it $129 and we're talking.

Wow! I hadn't seen the price yet, but I agree that $299 is way too high. At that price I might as well go the gaming console route and get a lot of added features as a bonus. I think these stream only devices need to be down in the $99 price range.
