Random post with a cave...

I call my friends to grab the packs, and if we have time, lash a rope around that nearby tree and run it into the cave while we all take shelter as far back as we can.

With the four of us, it might be a tight fit. The rope will give us some safety in getting around the pit (or into the pit). But if we're safe enough to hunker down away from the entrance and the pit, we will.

You go deeper into the cave, around the pit - and safely, as well. However, not for long, as there is a growling sound coming from deeper into the cave. A great, bipedal reptile-man is standing in the tunnel that leads downwards, and he has a spear with a stone tip in hand. He roars threateningly at you, and gesture angrily with his spear.

What do you do?

Cheers!

Avoiding the fungi, which indeed seem to shrink back from your touch, you reach the pillar. It is carved with many runes, none of which you can understand. At the top of one side of the four-sided pillar - the one opposite the tunnel from which you entered - is a carved face of cruel mien, with long hair and pointed ears.

The fish seem not to be falling from above. The river is indeed made of water, and as you put your hand in the water, the fish, somehow sensing its presence, dart away.

A rough count of exits from the room would appear to be twelve (including the tunnel you entered from). Some crystals are in the walls, and can be levered free with the point of your spear.

What do you do?

Cheers!
I get a crystal and keep it in my pouch, after I smell and taste it. How does it taste?
I try to catch 2 fishes.
One I hang from my spear, the other I place upon the pillar.
I touch the pillar, and I ask the Spirits to give me a sign.
Then I smash the fishes head, and see in what direction the blood/water will flow.
Leaving behind the fish, as a tribute to the cruel Spirits of Earth I follow the path to which the flow of the blood leads.

edit: also I leave a similar mark to show what the right path is....

Your compass's needle is spinning, giving you no indication as to which direction is which. From above, great balls of fire are beginning to fall towards the earth, and you are beginning to feel very unsafe as you move away from the stone and metal city and the cave.

Ahead of you stretches a plain of farmland, but farmland gone wild - untilled. Wheat crops long gone to seed wave in the wind.

What do you do?

Cheers!
It is clearly time to dig a trench and start praying.

Petey looks back at you. "What, me?"

He grumbles to himself as he fumbles with his implements and lights the lantern. Soon enough, he has the lantern lit. He brings it up, and its light illuminates a large pit within the cave that seems to have been freshly formed. There is enough room on either side of the pit to proceed forward. On the other side of the pit, a tunnel leads downwards into the depths.

What do you do?

Cheers!

"Don't worry, lad. My sword will keep us safe." I bend down on one knee and, with my sword, poke around the sides of the pit. "Petey, set the lantern down and grab the rope off of the donkey. Also, grab the hammer and some pitons; we may need them."

Ah Merric - you have many wonderful threads on here and I have followed a few, but this could get nasty for you....me has a sneaking suspicion this is your idea of an easy way to crack that 10,000 posts heh?

Anyway, the cave.

I sneak off to the side of the path leading towards the cave and await for my companions to catch up, but keeping an eye on the dark hole should anything emerge from there first.

Apparently we went in deeper than planned to take shelter from whatever asteroid/missile strike is impending.

I step back, non-threatening, pointing my flashlight at the creature, saying, "woah, easy there, whatever you are." My friend Brent steps forward though, pistol drawn and aimed, saying "Harris County Sherrif's Department. Put down your weapon."

Ned, from the back shouts, "What the heck is this, we got D&D lizardmen in the back and a cylon attack outside. Frak!" Paul says, "There's a blast wave gotta be coming soon, we ain't got time for....what the hell is that thing? You brought your gun to a park?"

If the lizardman talks, we'll try to talk him out of a confrontation. Brent, being a police officer will shoot him if he advances too far foward. He won't miss. With an impending blast wave from the city, we don't need to make an enemy out of this strange creature.

The crystal tastes of quartz. I have no idea what that tastes likes myself, but you're the one going around tasting odd pieces of rock. It doesn't seem special in any way - just a reflective piece of crystal. On the other hand, it might react better to other tests.

You now have a fish on your spear, and another hanging from the pillar.

The spirits may have sent you a sign, but it looks very much like a pair of giant centipedes, attracted by you and the fish. They advance circuitously through the bases of the mushrooms, their pincers clicking intimidatingly. Exactly what their intentions are, you're not sure, but they don't look friendly.

What do you do?

Cheers!

The sides of the pit are somewhat loose, but you find more solid rock and clay after disturbing quite a bit of the upper earth. Petey hands you a rope, a hammer and some pitons. One piton slips free and tumbles into the pit, bouncing with little sound out of sight.

"Oops!" exclaims Petey.

The hammer does not suffer the same fate.

It is clearly time to dig a trench and start praying.

You settle down in your newly dug grave... I mean trench... and start praying. Soon enough, the world is erupting in fireball after fireball, the light too painful to look at directly.

After a little bit, it calms down. The skies are fire, but you are curiously untouched - as is the city and the cave. The grass and earth where you lie are untouched, but a short distance away there is a line of charcoaled ground and burning plants. It seems to run parallel to the border of the city. The air is cool where you are, but on the other side of the line you can see an incredible heat haze. Somehow, you have been protected from the destruction from the skies.

What do you do?

Cheers!

It actually didn't occur to me at all when I set it up. :)

I mainly set it up because I was (a) bored and (b) wanting to do some brainstorming of adventure and encounter concepts. I'm not sure at all with how it'll evolve, but I hope it'll be fun to read and participate in. Now, back to the cave...

Anyway, the cave.

There is a snarling noise coming from within the cave, but its source seems to be distant; the sound is muted. Your companions seem to have been delayed, but there seems little point in worrying about that yet.

Rather more worrying are the fireballs falling from the sky.

What do you do?

Cheers!
