Pathfinder 1E What's this I hear about a new Pathfinder setting?

Can you tell us when Kaiden is supposed to be released? Also do you have any more info on Ultimate Combat such as it's release date or new classes, rules, etc.?

Kaidan's development cycle is December - February, so the release of Kaidan should be no later than March 2011. We plan to release each of the 3 adventures separately, along with corresponding class, race and monster PDFs, so adventure 1 The Gift, might get a February release - no promises though.

There will be a hardback print compilation of Kaidan currently scheduled for May, 2011.

Ultimate Magic from Paizo is supposed by released in April 2011, and Ultimate Combat is supposed to be released in October 2011, with the Tian Xia setting handbook at GENCON 2011 - as per Paizo's schedule calendar. That's all I know.

A little birdie told me about this at Pure Spec 2010 during a Pathfinder info session. There will be a guidebook for Tian Xia, but I don't know how "big" it's going to be.

I think I remember the "birdie" mentioning writing a novel set in Tian Xia. :p

Nice, I'd been considering stopping my AP subscription when Serpent's Skull finished out, but I think I'll stay in for this.

Any word on whether or not they're planning to make Samaria, Ninja, Shugenja and similar classes? Or will they just be using the base classes with some tweaks, like the alternate abilities found in the APG?

IIRC, the current plans are no new classes, but alternate abilities to be published in Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat.

No word yet, but if they add stuff like that. I would imagine it would likely be in their next world book. I mean the AP won't start until August so they got time.

my guess is if there is anything like ninja or samurai. it will be done as archetypes. though I think monk rogue or fighter could cover a mixture of both.

I could definitely see a rogue or monk "ninja" archetype and fighter or cavalier "samurai" archetype. I'd kind of like to see base classes, but I'll settle for nicely done archetypes. It would be nice to see a "shinobi" prestige class for those that wanted to go for a true ninja PC, and maybe a kensai or swordmaster PrC to make for an ultimate samurai swordmaster or wandering martial artist swordmaster. I guess we could expect wu-jen and shugenja archetypes as well and maybe even a sohei archetype. Some martial arts styles would be nice as well.

Just about everything you mentioned above applies to Kaidan classes, except: Shinobi will be archetypes for alchemist, monk, ranger, rogue and sorcerer, with a Ninja prestige class available to all Shinobi classes.

Wu-jen is a word invented by Gary Gygax, yet Japan has many viable wizards from its history/folklore, I don't intend to carry GEG's fake spellcaster. Japan had Onmyoji which best represents a professional full time wizard. Japn had Jugondo which was a hedge wizard, so I'm going to use that for Sorcerer.

Shugenja - this deserves some explanation. Shugendo is a religion. Shugenja is anyone (a child, an NPC commoner) who follows the path of Shugendo. Whereas Yamabushi is a priest of Shugendo.

Christian is to Christianity as Shugenja is to Shugendo. Using shugenja to describe an oriental priest is the wrong term. So I am using Yamabushi as my 'shugenja', and it will be the PF Inquisitor.

Kannushi is a priest of Shinto, so that's Kaidan's cleric.

In Kaidan, Sohei is a variant paladin/anti-paladin and a LN 'paladin' (any lawful).

I intend to fix lots of old RPG mistakes regarding oriental settings with Kaidan.
