Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: 2e vs. 3e

Can anyone who is familiar with both older WFRP products and the new FF version tell me about changes to the setting, style, and tone? I notice the Rat Catcher is still present, in some form, but I am wondering if the assumed background would be more different than 1e v. 2e.

3e is the D&D 4e equivalent of WFRP (but without the endless tracking modifiers on monsters..they track on the characters ability recharges instead). I like it.

Just as 2e was the equivalent of 3e D&D (with talents/feats and percentile system, with tabletop miniatures ability), 3e has added individual abilities for the various careers but most of them are generic.

There is one players guide for 3e.

There is approximately a zero percent chance I'll become a 3e adopter. I was just wondering if I could expect useful setting support or if I should continue to hoard 2e sourcebooks at every opportunity.

The main change to the setting is that they wound the clock back a bit from 2nd Edition and 3rd edition sits between the timeline of 1st and 2nd edition. Not sure if halflings made it back in to the 3rd edition yet but they got punted before the initial release (with plans to show up someday).

All I gotta say is that 1e is about the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on....

Thanks for the visual that just shattered everything fragile in my mind.

Can't really delve into where 3e takes place because while I own the box, I haven't gotten around to reading the rules yet. I own almost every 2e book except four of them.

I'd suggest doing that in any event. :)

If you see any 1e material then grab that too - some very good stuff came out back then, I still remember the looks on my players' faces when Bogenhafen went all pear shaped....

I want to get a replacement copy of the 1e core book. Something about the layout and the slightly off-focus print quality gave it a feeling... well, I kind of miss it. Plus it had crazy awesome drawings of Fmir and the Jabberwock.
