Does anyone want to talk about D&D?

Running two games right now.

1st is a d20 homebrew system that is demi-classed and skill based. It's grim and gritty uses wound points very warhammer/conanish. Visceral fast and bloody fun.

Right before we broke for the holidays we ended season 1. After defending a northern fort that is inhabited by good clerics from the vicious and savage troll-born. The PC's have to track down a mythical beast and one gets swallowed whole. The PC burns all his hero points to "dig" his way out! Then the season finale they return to the fort to find the clergy dead, and imperial inquisitors there for one of their own. Totally Epic.

The second is a supers game with my Son. Based in the marvel universe he is RAGE Son of Thor. I play his best friend Starfalcon a blaster that uses a lot of stunts with his powers to set RAGE up so he can shine.

I'm running Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk (using Savage Worlds, so not purely D&D, but I am running it in an Olde Skoole style). So far:

  • Started with one player with some extras (like 4e minions). His hirelings got slaughtered and he we had to break out the Chase rules to see if his halfling rogue got away...he did, so the campaign lives on
  • I did a side mission and threw some fun classics at the party - gel. cubes lurking in a magical pool, mimic portcullis, skeletons breaking out of a crypt, etc.
  • Random Loot
  • Goaded a player into thinking the pit outside the Tower of War was an illusion. In Savage Worlds, a 30' fall can be deadly - nearly killed that PC
  • The PCs are paying a heafty sum to the dwarves outside the tower and are rather ticked about it
  • In the spirit of EGG, I ran a Christmas special involving a demiplane with a familiar story. The group found a snow globe that transported them to Whoville. The Costanza Whos took the group in and allowed them to partake in their Festivus celebration. They did well at the Airing of Grievances, could not defeat Frank in the Feats of Strength, but fortunately the Grinch struck and filched the Festivus Pole. They rescued the pole and it transported them back to Greyhawk. It is a magic item for them - Airing of Grievances opens the portal to Whoville, wrestling Frank allows them to come back.
  • Lots of mayhem in the initial level of the dungeon so far.

Bouncyhead - post away! And I guess eBay would be your best bet?

InVinoVeritas - Is that whip PC in 4e? I'm guessing not, since you're disarming, etc...

El Mahdi - Thanks :) although my DM hasn't outlawed Oversized, so my one handed, twin-strike maul would beg to differ ;)

We're having a great time, even though the holidays kept us from gaming for about a month.

The PC's destroyed the sex robots who lived in the Pleasure Palace next to the tarpits. For a little while, they planned to load a half dozen barrels of pitch onto their Marble Elephant and head back to town. But they gave the matter some more thought and decided to press on to the volcano instead.

I've got a volcano map ready, but I need a few monsters to stick in it. I'm toying with the idea of introducing a Lost-esque smoke monster.

It's a new year and a new campaign for us. Our DM is running Mystara using 4e rules with an old school feel. What's disconcerting is he asked us to roll up a secondary PC "just in case.":-S

I'm looking forward to playing to the hilt a lawful stupid knight named Ser Valenhail. He is an essentials knight, though I've also thought about a paladin, but don't know how the essentials paladin plays.

Industry threads have been moved to the correct forum.

In the mean time, this week I have a flock of assassin-controlled pigeons swooping in to try and slay a particular PC. I have another PC who just learned that she's a famously blood-thirsty inquisitor who conquered a province, although she remembers nothing of it. And the group is currently in the cultural heart of the entire empire -- I play my cards right, and they'll be having running fights across national landmarks!

Here is your tale of real hardship. The husband and I are in Bulgaria... and there are apparently no game shop in the entire country. Granted, the entire country is a little smaller than the state of Tennessee, but still. The closest thing is a book shop in the capital city of Sofia, which also sells board games and card games. But no shop we've been able to find sells the books. So we make do with what we have on hand. And we make it work.

Dang. Are you able to find players? What edition are you using?
