Pathfinder 1E E6 and pathfinder

Lacan

First Post
I just recently discovered E6, and it blew my mind. I currently DM a 4e campaign, but WoTC hasn't given me any good reasons lately for me to give them my money, so I started buying PF stuff (the production quality and art is really dope)

Does Pathfinder work well with E6 variant rules, or has anyone tried it? I haven't played 3.5 rules in a long, long time, so I'm trying to get back in, but I don't want to craft a campaign for higher levels (or even imagine that possibility), I don't have time to balance things. I'm wondering if the buffs that mages seem to get in PF at lower level affect the experience of E6.

I've been curious about this myself. I love E6, and i recently picked up a copy of PF core rules. I don't have a group at the moment though...

One thing I have noticed is that Leadership Feat prereq is now level 7. I was thinking that that the feat (overpowered as it is) would have been a nice endgame element in E6.

I started writing my own variant for Pathfinder E6, including Campaign World material, since most campaign worlds aren't specifically geared for E6 (NPC's being level 6+). I'll post it, if anyone's interested.

The reason Leadership was moved to level 7 was because there was no feat at 6th level anymore (happening every odd level now, instead of 1st, 3rd and every 3 levels).
The requirements make more sense as to when you'd get a feat to choose it.

Since E6 caps your level at 6th, I'd say the requirement can just go back to being 6th level, easily. The "power" of the feat cannot be measured on any real comparison chart anywas... Yay! The fighter has access to spellcasting 2 levels lower than max (caster cohort), not to mention more actions per round.. how does that compare to +1 to hit with a single weapon, or +2 to two different skills, etc.

If you are allowing it in the game anyways, then it's no big deal to let them have it at 6th.

Alternatively, remember that every 5 feats above 6th level can equate to about +1 CR in strength that they can handle. While that is a bit like comparing apples to grapples, it's a good measuring stick for when to allow higher level requirement feats.
I'd probably allow 7th and 8th level feats after a little bit of advancement, and maybe even a few select 11th level feats (that didn't play off of iterative attacks of course) later on down advancement, when I'm letting casters get some rituals for some really nice magic.

So like.. around the time that I'd let a cleric get a reliable method of scrying or break enchantment, I'll let my fighter get something like sickening critical, etc.

What campaigns? I've done a little work on eberron, but not much...

Right now, I'm doing a custom campaign. When I took a look at optimizing offical worlds, I realized it would be more challenging than I thought worth it. Most those worlds are just built on a core assumption of higher levels. Dragonlance would have been the easiest though...

The reason Leadership was moved to level 7 was because there was no feat at 6th level anymore (happening every odd level now, instead of 1st, 3rd and every 3 levels).

One option would be to change the PFRPG feat progression to 1st, then every even level. Or, even just to a feat every level (as per Monte Cook's Books of experimental Might), cutting XP awards to slow down the rate at which characters achieve 6th level.

I love E6 and the concepts it's built on. I firmly believe that every campaign world would benefit from applying the concept that 6th level is high level (even if player characters and major villains are allowed to advance to 20th and beyond).

I still play 3.5 (heavily houseruled), but Pathfinder should work well with E6. I'm using some Pathfinder material in my 3.5 game with no problems. I award feats at 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc... So, same number of feats as Pathfinder, just awarded on the even levels, instead of the odd levels. And, Leadership has 6th level as a pre-requisite rather than the PF 7th level requirement.

The design idea of E6 takes the game closer to how the standard gameplay works in Mutants and Masterminds. Basically, you pick a power level and play at that level for the majority of gaming. Maybe a boost or change in powers when it's thematically appropriate (Red Gamma rays hit your character, etc).

I'd like to see a d20 Fantasy based game that took the E6 and M&M ideas, but built from the ground up. So you picked your "power level" and built character around that, and played your adventures with those abilities.

All it would take is some d20 mechanics in place similar to power stunting or variable arrays in M&M, and you've got the ability to spice up and change things from time to time, without needing to constantly level and "acquire".

That sounds awesome! Why don't we make a homebrew setting using rules like this?

Hm, this is the first I've heard of E6 but I like the idea. Here's the link to anyone like me that had to go search on it. A similar slimdown to Microlite20, but cut along a different axis. It really supports certain modes of gameplay very well I think.
