The Survivor (Character Suggestions)

First Post
So a friend is doing a super-short campaign, probably just one or two sessions. Here are his stipulations:

Eberron. Exotic races have to be run by him. Allowed up to one trait and one flaw from Unearthed Arcana. No evil. Third level.

And then he said not to bother with progression, because if I'm lucky I'll live to sixth level...but probably not longer.

This guy is a good friend of mine. He's used to playing with guys who can optimize a character to any specifications, who know the books backwards and forwards. I'm not one of those guys. What I am is crafty, and a pretty creative thinker when it comes to D&D, using roleplaying, skills, and items in inventive ways.

These guys love being more evil than each other when it comes to DMing, because they know how good they are at character generation. And in one-shots they can be hilariously brutal.

So who has a suggestion for a character whose whole life goal is to survive any unfortunate situation he's put in? I've decided that's how I want to play him. He'll probably be true neutral, but I may dig into Exalted Deeds because it pleases me. But I'm open to ideas.

(also, I am SO not the best at playing spellcasters.)

In terms of sheer survivability it is hard to go past the straight, single-class Cleric. They get d8 hit dice, heavy armour, heavy shields and full spellcasting. Spontaneous conversion of spells to Heal spells is just gravy.

I second this. They also get two good saves and a couple domain feats to play around with. If played conservatively, the straight cleric can sit right around the top of the survivability list.

Interesting, guys!

But he just dropped another knowledge bomb on me: it's a gestalt game.

Does that change your suggestions?

Edit: Just from poking around, I'm thinking Ninja Cleric.

What is the ability generation method? You might run into MAD with the Ninja/Cleric concept. Ideally, you'd want another class who leans heavily on WIS/CHA.

Is Tome Of Battles open? What about Crusader/Cleric?

What I like about the Ninja is that his WIS bonus is added to his AC...

Ability generation: 4d6, drop lowest, reroll ones. Roll 7 scores, drop the lowest. I can move up to 4 points around.

I want a character I can also effectively play as a coward. Not to run away and leave the other PCs high and dry, but to be able to be overly absurdly cautious.

Dude - high priest of the Ninja Tortles!!

I was also thinking monk (per Dandu) / cleric at first, but the problem is that Wis to AC is probably not as good as armor to AC, if you catch my drift.

Cleric / Warblade with Iron Heart stuff or Cleric / Crusader as Rhun said.
