Game of Thrones Sneak preview

Very cool.

I don't have HBO [Canada], but I'll be looking for the DVD when it comes out. Hmm, then again, maybe it will end up on NetFlix. :hmm:

It does, indeed, look well done. It also doesn't look as if it will feel rushed. Though some might counter its sombre nature is going to make it feel a bit slow, I'm liking this direction. I haven't read the books so I am not sure if that is true to the text, but it works for what I am seeing being presented thus far.

From the preview, it seems they are staying pretty true to the books. I'm sure the (minor) changes I noticed were done simply to make it play better on screen.

Great preview, but it has so little to do with the first book...or many of the books. What percent of the action actually involves that level of fantasy? I don't know if people that see that will have any idea what is coming.

But, man, I wish I had HBO...

Well, the preview is pretty much straight out of the the first two chapters of the first book.

It's exactly the same as the start of the first book.

In other good news - we in the UK are getting it at the same time as the US. This is happening a lot now (in both directions - the US gets Doctor Who same day this year). I'm guessing they've discovered this cuts down drastically on piracy.

Although we're getting it on a free channel (Sky Atlantic) which will probably annoy HBO subscribers!

Apparently a Pay TV company has acquired the rights for Germany. So I'll have to wait for half a year for the synchronization and the same time for the show to spill over to a free channel.

Oh well.

The previous clips were all trailers for the season as a whole, but this preview is supposed to be the first 10-15 minutes of the first episode. Maybe that's where you were a bit confused?

No, I think he's saying that the whole thing with the white walkers is a real element of fantasy, the supernatural, while the vast bulk of the story has no real fantasy on-screen. People judging what the series will be like based on that prologue might think the story is more magic-filled, thus being effectively misled.

Ahhh. I get it.

There is certainly some "magic" in the series, but you are right. AGoT is decidedly low magic / dangerous magic and gritty fantasy,

But I don't think a few glowing eyes will make people presume it is a magic-heavy story.

It is definitely low-magic, and I can understand this...but the preview was really close to the books. And I certainly didn't feel misled when I read the prologue of A Game of Thrones.
