Need to sub some low level monsters with higher level ones

I should add, if you need higher level kobolds you can fairly trivially reskin the higher heroic halfling and gnome monsters into kobolds, just by replacing their racial powers with shifty.

Thanks - gnomes might work pretty well, but halflings are very limited in DDI.

Keep the kobolds (or rather make most of them 9th level minions). And run them as Tuckeresque. Nasty buggers who absolutely can pursue a war with whatever you are using for the Mites by playing very dirty. And attacking the Sootscale Caverns is only for the foolish.

what does "Tuckeresque" mean? Dirty? Tricky?

And, while I can see upping the level of the standard kobolds, I'm leery of upping them more than 2 levels. So, those level 5 leader/controller types become level 7s. I think you bump them up too much, you risk losing the flavor of kobolds. Plus, I'd probably have to add/improve some of the powers, and I'm not sure I have the time to do all that.

Tucker's Kobolds. Really really dirty tactics. Murder holes, burning oil, deadfalls, locking the PCs in, statues of kobolds to draw PC attacks. The works.

And replacing first level warriors with 9th level minions is not IMO changing the flavour. Still makes them squishy, shifty, and annoying.

Thanks - I'm sure I'll have to put some traps in, as they're kobolds and have trap sense.

Plus, since kobolds are sized Small, have a lair designed for them and not any of the big folks. So, maybe -2 to any attacks an -2 to Reflex defense because the players are hunched over?

My players are currently 8th level. I'm using groups of gnolls against them right now. I also used a quickling as well, except he was riding on the back of an owlbear. Just for reference, the owlbear from the Monster Vault is brutal. If his double claw attack hits and grabs, action point for the beak attack can be devastating.
