Interesting.

As for the price of individual minis, it seems a bit on the high side. However, I am more interested in how much a case costs. I'm more likely to buy "random" minis by the case - especially if it's likely to get the entire set in only 1 case!

I actually prefer random overall because it ensures a higher quality average product. Companies aren't randomizing to try and trick you into collecting them all, it is something they are forced into due to realities of inventory management. If they produced 20 miniatures (one mini being a red dragon) in quantities of 1000 per mini and then everybody snatched up the red dragon, they'd have an inventory nightmare of distributors trying to return the unsold product because all customers wanted was the dragon.

There are four options:
(1) Sell "sets" where people buy all 10, or whatever, miniatures in a set. This forces the price to be too high because you have to include too many minis;
(2) Sell only one miniature at a time and don't release a new one until the old one sells out. You'd probably just do iconic large minis which could be neat;
(3) Randomize and hope the quality of the product pushes through the scorn of randomization;
(4) Don't randomize and just take the losses from shipping, returning, and reshipping product to smooth out demand variances.

In my mind, (3) is the most viable solution and so I am not surprised it is the one that keeps cropping up. Rant aside, $4 does seem a bit high. I'm imagining they are doing pretty small print runs and just struggling to amortize the cost of the mold which, iirc, can be upwards of $10k.

Pricing is listed here. $274.99 for a case which contains 4 Bricks (64 Standard Boosters and 12 Large Boosters) and a Standard Booster contains 1 Medium or 2 Small miniatures.

That price point is super high. I wonder what I'll be able to get minis for on Auggies in the 2nd hand market, or what a case will cost. But even the case price might be too high at that retail price. Some of the wizkids minis have looked great, some not, over the years. I am intrigued, as a minis junkie, but that price point is making me pause big time.

Yeah. Using the $275 case price up thread and putting a large mini at 1.5x a medium mini (i.e. the ratio of $4 to $6) you get a unit price of $3.35 per medium mini even if you buy a case ($275 / 82 (64 standard; 12 large = 18 standard)).

Interesting. Pretty pricey, but the sculpts themselves are pretty good for the most part. They would really benefit from a dark wash to draw out the detail. I'll probably pick some up on the aftermarket. I've got tons of DDM figures from when they were $12 for 8.

I did notice the Runelords packs were noted to be multifigure, perhaps 1 large, 2 medium (or 4 small).

40% case discount, divided by 76 minis is $2.10 per mini or so....still seems high, but that might be reasonable depending on the choices and sculpts.

What did WotC sell a case for and how may were in it? I never bought a case back when they were popular, just booster packs, so genuinely curious, not trying to pick a fight! :)
