Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

I have an unhealthy weakness for minis, and that black dragon limited looks mighty swell. Can't wait to see the markup on that sucker. The succubus is pretty nice, and I don't mind the frost giant, either, though much prefer the DDM version with the chainmail and fullhelm, the one that goes for way too much in the singles market for my taste.

I don't think you are picking a fight, no worries. I think we paid $110 or so for a case of the last set, but someone will correct me I'm sure. And, there were 56 minis in a case, if I remember correctly. Those included huges though, right? So, not that different a price, but larger minis. I will also say I find the WotC minis to be more durable than the wizkids minis I own, but not greatly so.

I suppose I could double check that math and minis count....I'll see if I can find the actual answers and update this.

Not for me

I'll be happy if the line proves profitable for Paizo, and if there are a lot of players out there who enjoy the set ... but my days of buying randomized items are long gone. Earning the money I'll have to pay was hard enough: when I spend it, I want exactly what I want.

Once people start selling individual minis online that I want, I'll go that route.

As for the pricing, I've never really purchased many miniatures, so it seems a bit expensive but I'm no expert. What I DO know is a $0.25 miniature made by Wizards of the Coast is $0.25 more than I want to give to Wizards of the Coast ... so the pricing of their products couldn't be less relevant to me.

I think the dragon looks cool. I'm not thrilled about randomized minis - even if I understand the reason given as to why it's done that way.

More than likely I will get one pack just to pad my mini selection a little more and to provide some variety. In the long run, painting will continue to be my main mini resource with the occasional purchase to fill out the ranks.

Is there a way to buy a bulk package of commons at a cheaper price? I'd be fine with something along the lines of a Bag'O'Kobolds or a legion of skeletons. I've started buying Warhammer minis for this reason. I don't even play Warhammer, but I've found some of the mini sets to be pretty good deals for when I need a lot of similar figures.

I too wonder how they'd look after a repaint or dipping. The sculpts themselves are a bit hard to appreciate on this kind of paintjobs, but it does seem the fur on the wererat looks... weird.

It's a bit sad if Warhammer minis are the better deal, since the #1 complaint of WH players is the cost per mini. I know a lot of those people have in turn migrated to cheaper companies like Mantic.

We are back in business baby!

Assuming that 64 standard will break down to about 48 med + 32 small + 12 large on a case, that's an average of just less than $3 per mini.

I can live with this price, especially for the Pathfinder Art.

Please note, there is no Random/Common/Uncommon mix. It's random, but they have not gone the rare route. Instead, the larger minis just cost more.

I can totally live with that.

And Pathfinder moved into the #1 spot for RPG sales for the 2011 2nd quarter. With power comes great business risk!

"The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner; now *I* am the master."

It depends what you get. For large quantities of similar figures, I've found the starter sets to be fairly reasonable. The Island of Blood starter is a little under $80, and it comes with 74 minis (one army of elves and one army of skaven.)

I've also picked up a few sets which were unpopular because of (or so people at the store claimed) not having good stats for the actual game. They were cheap because the Warhammer players didn't want them, but, since I don't play the actual game and don't care about their Warhammer stats, I didn't mind.

It's not something I do all the time, but there are times when one of the bulk packages has a type of creature I want, so I pick one up.

But, but, they are random?

Clearly Paizo doesn't care about it's customers, only wants to capitalize on the success of magic and other card games, and is a bunch of money grabbing jerks that hate me. I will never buy one of their products ever again.

Did I get that right? I mean, that's what people would type if WotC did this, right?

Did I get the prices right? $4 for one medium or 2 small minis, and $6 for one large mini? That's pretty pricey compared to WotC's prices.

Whew! I was worried we'd go four or five posts without someone trying to start a company battle (i.e. thinly veiled edition war).

I do appreciate how they spelled put the why's and wherefore's. THAT'S what makes Paizo such a great company: communication with customers.
