[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

Brian Shaughnessy

"You'd need an air supply," Deezy opines. "It's hard to 'filter' aether. But an airtight mask with an oxygen tank would work. Or the Beast...but it's too big to bring."

OOC: Note to self: always check your own equipment list first. lol.

"I have this I used for emergencies against toxins at the mill," Brian says, producing a small gas mask. "But I'm not sure if it's any good against aether. That stuff isn't normal."

Relique, I'm assuming aether behaves like a gas? Can its effects penetrate air-tight surfaces, say an enviromental suit?
OOC: It does, and no it can not.
Which leads us to: Did the caravan have any protection suits (assuming there is such a thing)? Seif should know since he went over the equipment lists in preparartion for the trip. Concurrently, could the town have a supply of protection suits? Please ask the elder if at all likely.
OOC: Yes, the caravan and the town would both have protective suits.

"Can the ventilation be thrown in reverse?"

"Yes, but at the cost of flooding the outer chambers with aether for at least an hour before the blowers purge the aether from the bunker complex. That is assuming the aether blower's fuel was spent. You would need to access the maintenance crawl way from the elevator shaft to do so."

"Describe the blower and its location."

"The blower is a man-sized machine with a round base that has four tanks of aether attached to it and a long thick pole or pipe that that lead to a cylindrical grilled mesh that cover's the blower's head. They extended the head into one of the ventilation shafts in the main chamber."

"Then we will need to exit this chamber and prepare ourselves to deal with the aether before making any actions."

"We need airtight suits. Not breathing it is not enough." He turned to Dunesage: "Where are they and how many?" Most towns had at least a few, in case of emergencies. The caravan itself had fourteen.

OOC: Correct me, both on the number of suits and the skin-contact thing (it *would* make things a lot easier :)).

"The machinist stated that aether tanks are rigged to explode if anyone comes within 5 feet of it."

"Can it be accessed from outside the chamber?"
"Not unless you open the ventilation's seal to aerate the bunker, but even then you will need to be the size of a child to navigate through the airways."

"Where are they and how many?"

"We have at least 20 in the base settlement's hotel, 10-20 at the medical clinic along the main through-fair, and there are 10 at the sheriff station near the upper tram station."

OOC: Correct me, both on the number of suits and the skin-contact thing (it *would* make things a lot easier :)).

ooc: 2 per vehicle and the skin contact is correct.

The planning

"Good. You will show the Ottoman where they are and bring back five suits as quickly as you can. Make sure they are intact." He turned his eyes to the man in white, expecting quick agreement or at least wise counter.

<Response Ottoman?>

Once that was done, Seif pondered -- mostly on why he was risking his precious neck for potential mutants... Professional deformation? Had he been playing guide that long already? Then he focused on the task at hand, namely saving his clients from their own folly:

"Change the flow of air so the aether flows out of the chamber - to the outside, *not* the outer chambers - pierce the door and ferry everybody out. Agreed?" He quickly clicked between the remaining two, Klatta in particular.

OOC: Seif is looking for positive pressure more than complete removal of the aether. That way we can quickly get everybody out of the zone of influence (which should at least remain stationary inside the lower chamber) with minimal risk of exposure for ourselves <I hope>.
<Assuming rough agreement:
"Klatta, you will find a way to do the former with- Your name?"

<Response "intercom man"?>

"Shaughnessy and I will start by clearing the way for the exodus." Two hundred people rushing up a staircase could quickly become a slaughterhouse; if they started running, if any of the front rows tripped... "Come to us when you've worked out what you need."

[sblock=Actions]Seif plans to chop-up and move the two crab bodies out of the way with Brian's help. He'll also make sure the elevator is still quiet and barred while he's at it.[/sblock]

Deezy's brows knit in confusion as she tries to make head or tails of what Seif is talking about.

"So...you mean, try to funnel the aether from the blower to the ventilation outflow? I dunno if we can do that without getting close to the blower though..." She frowned, thinking...then brightened. "Then again...maybe we can!"

(OOC - Relique, is aether 'heavier' or 'lighter' than air? Does it rise up like smoke, or sink to the floor? Either way it could fill a room in enough quantities, but my idea works differently one way than the other.)

"Hu." Equaly wordless approval from Seif.

Seif too paused, making sure he had some idea what animals lurked behind the unfamiliar terms, less they all be devoured... "From the poisoned chamber to anywhere that's not this stairway," he carefully stated.

<Response Deezy?>

OOC: Lighter... hense why they evacuated to the lower level. As strange as it sounds, in part of the reason the blower was placed in the vent was to ensure that the aether would circulate through the bunker before it settles (floods) in the higher level.

Brian nods, realizing they've left large obstacles lying about in the form of the crabs.

OOC: Brian's Weaken ability is limited to "Objects Only." Once they're deactivated, do the crabs count as objects, or would he have to use his damaging attacks instead? Constructs always confuse me a touch when it comes to what affects them.
