Why isn't this an RPG?

GI Joe could use d20 Modern.

There was always the thought that this would have been a no-brainer, what with Hasbro owning both GI Joe and Wizards of the Coast....

At any rate, Crafty Games made one for Spycraft rules: Real American H.E.R.O.es

And Vigilance Press has turned out some GI Joe-inspired characters in their Wargames supplements for ICONS (sample)

However, according to the several rpg websites, it's mechanics (or lack of them) were extremely bad.

Ironically, Hasbro and WoTC tried out their My Little Pony RPG first. Though it was an April Fools joke.

PCs start off investigating worlds created by 'linking books', possibly solving mysteries behind them, and then learn how to write their own 'linking books', creating custom worlds, and then resolving the problems inherent within them - debugging their creations through adventure!

Could work especially well for round-robin DM sessions too...

I think it would be a great setting for an RPG, especially one that focused on social rules. I guess it hasn't been done yet (at least not that I can find) because it's a sub-genre of Romance.

Flash Gordon, Thundarr, and Masters of the Universe. In all three, you've got a wide variety of races, science fiction, and magic. And I'd love a Planet of the Apes rpg.

As for RPGs the should be made -
Hoodwinked! the RPG - the modern fairly tale (yes that spelled correctly) based on the often overlooked animated whodunit mystery.

Seriously though - Suikoden the RPG - the tale of the 108 stars of Destiny
The magic system alone would be worth the sourcebooks.

Sony is apparently making such a film; Grayskull: Masters of the Universe. No timeline has been established, though. Come on Sony Pictures. The world is dying to see a giant green cat, complete with helmet, on the big screen
