Time for an all-pixie campaign

Today's "In The Works" appears to confirm that pixies will be tiny (although I guess "tiny" doesn't necessarily mean "Tiny") and retain some invisibility powers, plus flight.

I'm pretty confident at this point in WotC's ability to balance out seemingly game-breaking stuff . . . I hope pixies are in the previews . . .

I am hoping there is actually a racial restriction that limits them to implement only classes. We are all big boys and girls and understand that being tiny has it's limits in what sort of classes can be played.

F. That.

You can play every class as every race. It's one of the many beauties of 4e, and there's no reason to get rid of it.

Besides, there aren't any essentials-compatible implement-based defenders, so this would handicap my plans to roll up on the local Encounters group with a party of pixies.

Which is going to be awesome, by the way; whichever random person(s) gets seated with us will be Faerie King(-and-Queen) For a Day. And a proper King needs a defender.

To do so would murder my dreams of a min-maxed Pixie Ranger who flies up to enemies and turns them into red confetti with her pair of re-fitted pairing knives.

All you hear is a faint buzzing noise, before the orc warlord explodes into gibblets.

This is my fear and expectations. Similar to "playing a vampire gives you almost zero choices". It's a bad argument to say "these are the things that get pigeonholed" without at least entertaining the idea that there could be another way to do things (let alone the fact that it's a FANTASY role-playing game).

Still, the idea of a Tiny creature using a fullblade or heavy shield is a bit much, but who's the say they're going to remain Tiny if they are at all (though it's heavily hinted that they will be).

I can see both sides of the argument, but ultimately what is the point of new races that are mechanically sanitized to the point where you might as well be a halfling?

To be fair, that trend already existed in 4Ed- Minotaurs, Githzerai, Goliath's are, IMHO already examples of races that got hit with the Whitebread stick in the interests of balance, and they're not the only ones.. Not everyone agrees, of course, but I can tell you for a fact I'm not alone in this view.
