Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

Little disappointed that we got no info on the black dragon yet. If the potential to buy it winds up another $75 for the black I'll be curious to see the reaction. Especially as Reaper has their own resin black coming out soon.

From the Paizo page for the set it appears they are only emailing the people that pre-ordered a case when the price for the black dragon is announced.

Pathfinder Battles: Heroes & Monsters said:
Note: Customers who preorder a Heroes & Monsters case before October 1 will have the opportunity to purchase the mighty Black Dragon, a special promotional miniature that towers over other figures in the set and sits on a 3-inch base. This offer will be limited to one Black Dragon per case purchased. (We'll contact purchasers by email regarding that offer as soon as details are finalized.)

Yeah, but how much? Surely they're going to let potential customers know ahead of time how much the dragon will cost prior to that. That would be completely bad business to not do so. and Paizo, thus far, hasn't seemed like that type of company. "Interested in the black dragon? well, you can have the potential to get a price quote if you order a case!" Don't see that happening.

Personally, I am waiting to see actual photos, to see what they really look like.

Hopefully some are released soon, as they are supposedly only a month from sale.

I just do not trust digital renderings to reflect reality.
The medusa looks great but the lich seems to be too cartoonish for my taste - or is that just because it'S not a photo of the real mini?

I think the digital rendering color gives them that slight cartoonish look. The Beginner Set minis had that odd color and the actual painted ones in the photo higher up in this thread look much more realistic.

I still don't get why people buy minis in the first place . . . use tokens!

Because minis look cool on the table. I used to use tokens. Then one session one of my players brought along some undead minis for me to use. I was hooked and never looked back.

As much as tokens are cheaper, the minis add a certain coolness factor that I think makes them worth their price.

I also love the fact that I basically have enough minis now to have either the exact mini I need, or something that looks very close, for just about any encounter.

The next session of my Shackled City campaign will open with the Huge Red Dragon gracing the table for the very first time. Hookface is making his debut appearance.

Edit: The Paizo minis really look like they could benefit from a simple wash to bring out the details. I wonder why that step was left out as I think the minis would look a lot, lot better with it. I also wonder about how much packaging is being wasted by selling each mini individually wrapped and boxed.

I think the actual painted minis look pretty good. The digital renderings are the ones that look like they are in need of a wash, but those are just mock-ups. The beginner set mini pic I posted above are probably closer to the actual product.

Miniature Market has cases up for presale (only $200). They also have case + black dragon at only $15 more. Sounds like an good deal all around.

Also, on the look of the minis... I saw the minis from the beginner's box at Gen Con-- they look fantastic! Even better than the pics from GenCon above. I have high hopes for the over-all quality of the line.
