Lack of Female Dwarf Art

Attached is a female Dwarf Fighter drawn up by my spouse.

I just did a google search on "Female Dwarf" and then clicked on images, there are actually quite a few nice hits that you get from doing this, which makes me think that there isn't too much of a lack of it out there, maybe you just need to look again using the right phrasing on the search engines?

I concur. My wife plays a female dwarf (priestess, yes) in WoW, and as a result, the female dwarf art issue comes up regularly in this household. It's out there.

Of course it is out there, you just can't tell the difference between the men and women, not being a dwarf yourself ;)

On a serious note, skimming through the first 3 or 4 pages of google images I'd say a bunch of the stuff out there I'd not want to use, though some of the minis that show are cool.

And others... not so much. (Warlord, I am looking at trying to avoid looking at you! I don't care if those are supposed to be cheerleaders!)

My favorite is still the female dwarf from the old Slavers series of modules, beard and all.

The Auld Grump

That seems to be pretty common for female RPG art in general. I've looked through DriveThruRPG, and a huge percentage of their female RPG art is as much pinup as anything you could use for a character.

That's one of the reasons I subscribe to the female dwarves have beards idea - there are tons of ways to make them stylish and, for lack of a better world, feminine; and it really drives home the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Ack. Dwarf chicks should NOT have beards. I mean, ugh.

While I can understand different standards of beauty and all, I'm sorry, female dwarves with beards is really something that's just best left by the wayside. (shudder)

A male dwarf that likes them beardless is automatically suspected of being a child molester by dwarven society at large in my campaign.

Well I like the silly bearded dwarf female schtick myself, so to me there's not big deal that female dwarf art would be hard to find, since all dwarves look the same anyway.

If you want to go bck to the original myths where there were no differences between elves and dwarves, you could make the dwarves the males and the elves the females of the same race.

That has been my experience as well. Out of the good art, a lot of those are priestesses.
