Cool, but where is he going with this?
It seems that they are moving backwards... They seem afraid to displease the grognards.

With Essentials, WotC seemed to search for new players. I don't know if it worked.

In this column, I have the feeling the author plays on nostalgia, a general trend these days. When one withdraws towards its past like that, the grave is in sight... I would prefer someone who honestly states what problems the present edition genuinely has and gives hints to fix it.

In this text, like in many others (even on this forum), I feel players and developpers are shying away from the REAL problems to concentrate on minor details or simply stating that things were beter in the past (ie : when they were younger).
 



I don't know. Just because someone created a Hat of Disguise 30 years ago means we should have to endure that item forever? At least this would make it impossible to organise the material in any sensible way.

Or would Mr. Cook like to evaluate each and every item (as well as spells and monsters) from the past and judge whether they are keep-worthy or not?

Well, I voted in the poll to concentrate on the present and future.
