...A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Store

Wandering around Target this afternoon and, as always, I pass by the board game section.

Lo, and behold, there's three different games there from Fantasy Flight (Deadwood, Lord of the Rings and Runewars). Sitting right next to it are copies of Munchin.

Not a single D&D boardgame or the like in sight (not even a copy of the Red Box). I mean come on - I can find a copy of munchin for sale at Target and no D&D related stuff anywhere? Fantasy flight (and Settlers of Catan) is getting mainstream enough to carry them in "regular" stores and D&D is backed by a toy/board game company and they can't be bothered to have a product that could be carried in these stores?

(I guess they must be behind the counter somewhere...)

I saw all of those games at Target, too - I hadn't heard of Deadwood and it caught my eye.

I've never seen any of the D&D board games you mention. Ever. Anywhere.

Long story short, Munchkin did well in a regional trial so it was picked up nationally.

No, I think its more likely that they havenot made that much money off Dungeons and Dragons if it were ever in their store.

Crazy corporate stuff. If Hasbro doesn't want to associate with us, what makes them think we want to associate with them? Sometimes the old saying about big groups is true: Any one of us is smarter than all of us.

*Shuffles* Yeah, I reckon I do. I was just vent'in. I didn't intend to come down so heavy though. Just frustration, I guess.

I've switched my active game to PF, but I really do WotC to succeed. I'm putting my 4e purchases on hold until I see what direction they are headed though. My budget barely has room for just PF stuff.

For me and Whizbros, it is watch and wait time.

Back on topic...I wonder why WotC's board games are not in the store? I bet the big retail chains could help push out the board games.

I haven't paid attention to Deadwood and the like, but I had been seeing Settlers there for awhile. Just saw Munchkin in one for the first time a few days ago, along w/the Nerf Rayven gun, which isn't supposed to be out until 3/3/12, but it's showing up some places already. Weird
