Thinking more about this, I'm really baffled with Hasbro's handling of the D&D brand. Is it just not selling, or are they not trying?
Back in the '80's, LJN had a whole line D&D toys (Zarak the Assassin was my first figure). Then there was the whole D&D cartoon thing.
Hasbro has got to know about these; the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Complete-Bob-Holt/dp/B000JBXY44/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326077899&sr=8-2"]D&D cartoon[/ame] was put out just a couple years back. Even if they can't reproduce the LJN line, they could've done a line of Dragonlance figures (considering their Practical Guide/Monster Slayer book line are set in Krynn), or perhaps line of FR figures. I wonder if the horribly animated Dragonlance video killed this, but you would have thought that they would have coincided toy releases with the video if they'd been planning to make toys at all.
Instead, they go with a half-hearted attempt to reissue the D&D minis for the dying line of Heroscape. Which pretty much seems like it was a set-up to fail. And whose dumb idea was D&D Clue?
The current D&D boardgames seem to be doing okay (Though the Drizzt game seems weak to me), but they're really too pricey to see much sales in the boardgame sections of discount stores. I'd love to see a $20 D&D boardgame (with Pathfinder-like standees if need be) in a local Kmart, Walmart or Target.
Heck, why haven't they brought back the Dungeon! boardgame? Do they not hold the copyright to the game or something?
