PCs fleeing thru Sigil's sewers on Friday the 13th

It's a creepy underground encounter for atmospheric horror, which is what I read the post to be asking for.

I'm sorry I don't have 4e stats for the creepy critter I tossed out to share, but it was from a years-old 2e campaign and I have no idea where my notes for it went to.

I don't expect random toss-outs from my campaign to necessarily fit anyone else's, so feel free to ignore. But I was specifically answering the question as I read it, and it was not a cut and paste. My campaign notes were handwritten back then, which is something I am now deeply regretting.
Maybe it doesn't work for what he had in mind, but it was great ideas and well-written. I'm stealing it ;)

Oh, and don't worry about the stats. Super easy to do with 4e. Just reading it, ideas on how to do so were forming in my mind :D

Glad you liked it. If you do stat it up, please share! I always hate doing the number crunching part.

There was low turnout to last night's session, so I shelved my planned Rattus Urbis WTF session and ran a loose adaptation of WotC's Something's Cooking as Blood, Sweat & Cheese.

Still sure would like to hear how Quickleaf's game went!

Haha, and the calzone golem?

Between an extra player joining the game and a string of hot rolls, the PCs managed to stay the course and kill Many-as-One. I was surprised! :)

So i ended up not using the skill challenge (though I'm saving it for future use).

As an aside it was an interesting boss fight, albeit took an entire evening to play through! It only felt like it was dragging during the last 30 minutes, the rest if the time it was tense and dynamic.

They kicked his arse. We nearly had a TPK when they first entered the apartment, though, and were swarmed by pretty much everything inside the apartment. Death by curtains. This made them very tense for the rest of the adventure.

The players are all relative newbies, so I've been kind to them. I thought it was time for them to graduate to meaner things. One player was adamant about running away, which I consider a valuable lesson to learn.

If/when you use it, I'd still like to hear how it goes. If I adapt it for my own use, I'll let you know.

Haha, 30 minutes sounds like the point where I start to lose my patience.

Heh. We're both playing 4e right? IME it's a rare fight that's resolved in under 30 minutes.

But as for using this skill challenge, turns out it may come up Friday since the group has elected to keep exploring the sewers after defeating Many-as-One. Between thieves, undead, and wererats there's lots of opportunity to get in over their heads. If I do use a modified form, I'll post about it here.

15-45 minutes been the norm for us, so far. But I don't throw a leveled encounter at them every time and have gone to lengths to shorten combat. It's an ongoing process.

I await it expectantly!

How many in your respective groups (yours too Quickleaf)?

I have run for groups of both 3 players and 6 players under 4e, and I find the difference is dramatic. I've played in groups where I was one of 5 players and it runs a little faster than with 6. I'm thinking a group of 4 players would hit the "sweet spot" - you'd still have the capability of covering all roles (if that matters), and combats would still be fast. That's my theory anyway :)
