Aries the ram

I have slowly incorporated NPCs throughout my campaign to fill up representatives for each zodiac sign, which the PCs will have to meet in order to rescue/kill the princess for the conclusion of a campaign chapter.

For example, Taurus will be a minotaur enemy, Libra will be a friendly paladin of justice, etc.

I'm having issues with Aries and Capricorn. I have a Satyr sage who I had planned for Aries (1st sign), who would give them tips on the following 11 signs. But now I think the satyr would be more goat (capricorn) than ram (aries).

How can I incorporate a "ram" NPC? Or if I put a satyr under Aries, what would be a good "goat" for Capricorn?

maybe present him as a dwarf and add curling ram horns to his helmet.

Chimerae have a goat head, but it's only 1/3 goat... you're right, satyrs are goat not sheep. Perhaps a tiefling with curling ram-shaped horns that is optimized for charging and bullrushing, in a mountain terrain where falls are seriously bad?

Or a siege situation in which the opposing army has a battering ram, complete with bronze ram head, and the party needs to sally outside the walls and stop them from crashing the gate?

Or a clever rogue seeking to pull the wool over their eyes? (never mind, baaad idea)

Perhaps the ram is a shepherd? Honestly I think it would be humorous to have a group of ewes (think Babe) who serve as the oracles of a specific farming village. They are tended by a shepherdess that is renowned for her knowledge . . . until the players find that it has all been an elaborate coverup for this group of sheep. The ivory-colored ram, the awakened familiar of the grandfather to the new "Oracle", is being blamed for the poor crops and is to be killed for the winter feast to grace the fields with good harvest.

Capricorn is also an option for a similar tale due to the common idea of Capricorn being a symbol for Amalthea.

EDIT: Didn't notice, but the wikipedia article may be considered questionable for work due to classicism. Browse at your own risk :).

I also thought shepherd and like Lanook's scenarion enough to yoink:)

I know of a PC who was always being followed around by both sheep and people who later learned that he was a shaman with a sheep totem.

A Satyr might still be possible since iirc Capricornis is infact a Sea-goat, not sure if thats ever been statted however. There is also the Ibixians who might be used for variation.

How weird is your campaign?

If its oddball enough, "Aries" could be an NPC like Ash from Army of Darkness (and the other Evil Dead movies), wearing a Dodge Ram T-shirt. Perhaps he was even born in mid-April...

"Aries" could be a Bard who plays the Shofar.

Or maybe you want something more obscure... G.O.A.T. is an acronym for Greatest Of All Time- perhaps it would be on a pennant.

Capricornis is infact a Sea-goat,

How about an Ibixian with an aquatic template, or who is a Sorcerer with a water elemental bloodline (see DCv1's sorcerous bloodlines)?

Thanks for the ideas!

I thought about the sea goat too, but wanted to avoid having 3 water-based creatures in a row (Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces). I'm trying to avoid "ramming" enemies since that'll be bullrushing, and guess who's going to be doing that ;)

The sheppard idea looks good! There is a bard NPC that I'd like to bring back into the main storyline, so that would combine with the shofar. It makes sense that the bard has enough lore to give the party tips about the dangers ahead, instead of the satyr like I originally planned.

I do still want to see the group take on some Mobs of lambs who are protecting the Druid ram though :'( :).
