After mass and breaking fast one of the novices seeks you out and introduces herself as novice Asula. She asks if you would like to accompany her to the market to have a look at the different herbs on sale.
She is a friendly if somewhat naive girl of about fourteen years old, earnest in her desire to become a sister-apothecary and with a knowledge surprisingly thorough in the species and supposed healing properties of plants you are supposed to be getting.

"... and off course the yarrow should be dried by now, we'll have to see if the southerners have some for sale..." She turns around and looks at you. "I'm sorry my lady, I just cannot stop once I start talking. How are you settling in? Is there anything you require?"

The interior of the cathedral is dark. The ground is all made of carved slates depicting faces of the long deceased and commemorating those that have been buried underneath. The familiar trappings that surround you are similar but not identical to what you are used to, since the traditions of the cloister are slightly divergent, which is to be expected since you are from one of the more martial orders. You kneel in prayer underneath the big Aquila for a time.
There are several members of the clergy and quite a few lay people about. They seem to give you quite a bit of space.

Slyth's practiced eye is pulled towards a likely target for a number of schemes. A knight of Saint Armatt just rode up towards the cathedral. The rays of the morning sun reflect from an object hanging from a cord fastened around his neck. An amulet. A very familiar amulet.

Slyth initially doesn't believe his eyes. Another amulet? It can't be.
He dismisses it, and goes about his business. But as he makes the contacts he needs and starts to earn some serious favors, his thoughts keep straying back to the amulet. Eventually he gives up - he just can't concentrate well enough. The Armorers' and Weaponsmiths' Guilds have each independantly promised to pay him one part in forty of the sale price of the weapons if his sources prove to be correct, and that's got to be worth a fortune, especially if the local nobles decide to rearmor all their household troops (and given the gossip he'd heard from some of the guards and household troops themselves, a lot of that impressive-looking armor was worn pretty thin indeed), but the main supplier of coke to the armorers had managed to haggle him down to one part in fifty, as had the leather suppliers to the saddleries. He was losing his touch. Time to go and find that knight with the amulet.

Aridha smiled and was about to brush the question off when she realized she needed to get out to make contact with Slyth again and see what he was up to. The marketplace would be a perfect place to do that...he was almost assuredly lurking about there, either seeking coin or spending it.

"Actually, now that you mention it, I have a few errands to run myself," she replied to the novice. "Morning devotion at the Cathedral, then a trip to the market for some supplies. Shall we go?"

The bells in the tower start to toil, calling the masses to the cathedral. Once again a plethora of targets pass before Slyth's eyes, temptation besieging him from all sides. In a niche in the side of the cathedral the knight sits in lone vigil underneath a large aquila. None seem to dare approach him.
Aridha sees the crowd heading towards the cathedral. She sees a glimp of Slyth entering the cathedral, his eyes darting back and forth untill he sees a lone knight deep in meditation under an Imperial Aquila in an alcove off the side.

[sblock=ooc]He's had a week to notice - now events have caught up on him.:)

Slyth looks around the cathedral for the knight. It takes a short while, mostly because he prefers to search with his eyes, rather than putting his body on the line, but finally spots him.
He walks towards him, carefully, trying, as much as possible, not to be noticed until he gets there. He thinks over how he will introduce himself, or will he, it's an imperial knight, don't be stupid, no, focus.
When he arrives, he stands to the side, and coughs politely. At least it's better than nervously. When the knight acknowledges him, he starts his spiel.
"Greetings, Sir. I see you wear the amulet. How may I be of service?"

Gabriel stands up as soon as the one who approached him starts to speak. He quickly checks his surroundings to see who else might have snuck upon him like this guy. He would have to be more careful in the future, this is the real world now, not a safe place like the monastery and getting this lost in meditation might some day be the last thing he does.

He stares at the figure standing before him. At first glance there doesn't appear to be anything extra-ordinary but the more Gabriel thinks about it, the more he gets the feeling that this one could easily blend in the shadows. He doesn't look like a fighter, more like a backstabber. So why would he be so open in his manner, is this a distraction? He looks around again trying to spot others but everything appears normal. Just people moving in the main aisle, nobody else seems to be watching them.

Maybe, just maybe, could this guy be telling the truth? But the abbot said to trust no-one, and not eager to make another mistake after letting his guard down, he reaches for the handle of his sword, grabs it tightly and slowly unsheathes two inches of the fine steel.

'Who are you and what do you know of my amulet?

[sblock=ooc] back from holiday ;) so was complete unaware of anything else except my meditation [/sblock]

Slyth smiles and bows.
"Come, Sir, let us not be coy. My name is Slyth, though this is unimportant. I am honorbound to assist the bearer of the amulet. That is my sworn duty, now as in the past. You bear the amulet, therefore I am to assist you."

From her position just inside the door of the Cathedral, Aridha watched the knight and the thief as they spoke. At the curious look earned from her fellow, she smiled self-consciously and said, "I never get used to the Cathedral, no matter how many times I've seen it."

Asula smiled in understanding, a little relieved to have a solid explanation for that look she'd seen momentarily on Aridha's face. That focused, sharp look, like a cat watching a mouse. Not the kind of thing generally attributed to a nun, but perhaps it made sense that she might regard the stained glass, or stonework, or array of holy relics cordoned off, with that intent stare.

"Asula," Ari murmured as they walked down the center aisle, "I think I recognize someone. Please continue without me while I go say hello. It shouldn't take long."

"Of course, sister," Asula agreed amiably, and Aridha broke off and went towards the knight and Slyth with an appropriately prim expression of mild distaste.

"Gentlemen," she said in a voice that somehow managed to sound loud but carry very little. A kind of 'librarian's shout.' "Can I help you with anything?" She leveled a stern look at the knight. "I do ask that you not draw weapon in this place, sir knight."

'Greetings sister, may the God-Emperor shine his light on thee,' Gabriel says while bowing his head a little towards her, but still keeping eye on Slyth.

'Forgive me, but I can assure you that I do not have harmful intent in mind. In our order there is a longstanding tradition of preserving the faith by manner of devotion and combat. To achieve this goal, we consider any means valid. If reasoning and speach do not deliver the required effect, I will not hesitate to use force to make a point, after all, sometimes actions say more than words. However I will not do so unprovokedly.'

Gabriel relaxes a little and lets his sword slide slowly back in its sheath. With a determined look and a fixed gaze on Slyth, he continues.

'If his intentions are just, then he has nothing to fear. But you cannot blame me for being sceptical, to say the least, after his claims of being honorbound to the bearer of this amulet. This sacred item has only very recenty been revealed to me by blessing of our patron-saint himself! So it's easy to understand that I find his words very doubtful. By the looks of it, I reckon he was thinking more of a quick scam. I'm just pointing out the potential danger of following that erronous path.

As you may or may not be aware of, change is coming fast and I'm just preparing for the mission my order sent me to fulfill. I cannot allow myself to be concerned by such distractions.

Have faith in the one and only God-Emperor, he will protect the righteous.'
