3.X Warlock Pacts?

In 4.0, while I haven't played it, everyone gets powers and have action points to use them. Pacts are just different paths with different powers for warlocks to get.
Oh. So, like ability tech trees in videogames that are distinctly not D&D style? Sorta like my feelings about 4e in general.

Not quite. A 4e warlock's at-will powers are eldritch blast plus one at-will determined by their pact; also, all 4e warlocks have a "warlock's curse" (an at-will debuff) and each pact gives you a "pact boon" which grants bonuses when you kill enemies under the effects of your curse. For instance, a warlock with the Infernal pact gains the Hellish Rebuke at-will (if you damage an enemy and they attack you, they take some damage), and every time they kill an enemy under the effect of their curse they gain temporary HP. So it's not too video-game-y at all, and is actually a nice way to distinguish sources of warlocks' power.

The warlock pacts in 4E are one of the only things in that game I have seen worth stealing and putting in 3.X games...
 

Okay, based on the 3.5 warlock origins material I made the following:



Ophidian Affinity
You have been touched by Set.
Prerequisites: You must be a worshiper of Set, and be a member of an ophidian race or have a snake familiar. You must be able to use Least Invocations.
Benefits: You can speak to snakes at will and gain a +4 reaction bonus on all dealings with snakes and snake-like creatures.
Special: You lose all benefits of this feat if you lose favour with Set until you atone for your infractions.
 

You may want to replace "reaction" with "circumstance".

Bottom line is, snakes aren't intelligent so the ability to talk with them is less useful than if you were in, say, the Harry Potter universe. The main think this would be used for is the bonus on dealings with Yuan-ti and so forth. Unless you are in a campaign that involves talking to snakes and social intrigue with Yuan-ti, it is weak. And even in such a campaign, I'm not convinced it would be better than other options.

You are descended from creatures native to the fey realms. You are naturally resistant to the most common effects produced by your ancestors.
Prerequisite: Nonlawful alignment,
Required for: Fey Legacy (CM) , Fey Power (CM) , Fey Presence (CM) , Fey Skin (CM) ,
Benefit: You gain a +3 bonus on Will saving throws against enchantment effects.

Ok, Fey Heritage isn't that great, but it opens up some useful options; Legacy and Power both give you some useful SLAs, and Skin gives your DR that stacks with Warlock DR.

There are also Fiendish Heritage feats.

Special: You lose all benefits of this feat if you lose favour with Set until you atone for your infractions.

Better? Not too strong?

I think +4 is a bit much. Maybe make it +1 instead, and give a +2 bonus on dealings with snakes and snake like creatures?

or.... instead, just give the individual hypnotism powers like Kaa.
