The Four (or Five) Primary Classes

1. A sorcerer is Not a fighter/wizard.. s/he is just an alternative wizard.

I have a hard time picturing Sorcerer as "just a different kind of wizard" because of its spontaneous casting. There is something else about spontaneous casting that influences the role of a class beyond the list of spells which the class uses. It's important enough that spontaneous caster versions of the Cleric and even Druid appeared eventually. So, IMO, Sorcerer isn't just an "alt-Wizard", but something else.

I actually agree with you.. a sorcerer is what the wizard Should have been.. and spontaneous casting is how magic in general should work.. but Vancian seems to be the eternal D&D standard.

When I described the sorcerer as an alt wizard, I was responding the the assertion that a sorcerer was a sort of wizard/ fighter, which it is not. 4e aside, a sorcerer fills the same "role" as a wizard.

All my experiences with sorcerers but the in a rogue style wizard.

Most sorcerers i've encountered have been either "Sorta always Prepared all day" or "Practically sneak attack" casters. This goes to the theme of the sorceror.

Either they go the Batman route and take the most efficient spells they can get. Then they "always" have the "correct" spell ready.

Or they specialize and grab every version of a spell type, adjusting for resistance and immunity. This creates an "Everything is a Nail" caster.

Maybe people just don't want vancian spellcasting? That's the only reason I always use sorcerers and never wizards.
