Super D&D: We don't need any stinkin' reality!

I mostly want to pick one enemy up and beat another enemy over the head with them.

That's my favorite "strong guy" move, but there aren't enough ways to easily mimic it.

Ah sure or smash back one guy so that he knocks over a big cluster of those around him like a span of bowling pins.

Haidoken!

The question is where should these over the top maneuvers and tricks happen. Are they epic tier events, ridiculous skill checks, wu xia style from the get go? I think all can be supported with minimal page support. "Wu xia" is descriptive more than mechanical for combat. The effects are over the top but the pacing of hp loss would be the same. Ogres using their orc allies as living clubs when they rage, bards blasting apart a mob with a powerful single clarion note, wizards cratering the earth around their foe are more flavor. Minion rules shine here, for mooks.
Standing next to a mountain and chopping it down with the edge of your hand, sounds like it could've handled by the ritual rules, just lower the cost.
These all seem like a Dragon article or part of a larger supplement.

My reason for making this topic is that D&D's long leash on "realism".

There are many anchors to normal physics and humanoid survivability. And there are many times when the chain breaks and it is hard to pretend to be a normal person without changing the rules. Especially at high level... oh man is it inconsistent and silly at the same time.

So I hope that there are clear "uh-oh" and "wahoo" modes.

I'm content to let games like Exalted handle the comically over-the-top unrealistic stuff. Let D&D be D&D.

This dichotomy between wanting super-heroes or super-zeroes is stupid.

Even Aragorn is pretty darn heroic compared to how mundane a lot of people seem to want D&D to play out.

I don't need to jump tall buildings in a single bound, but I'd like to be a little more than just "some dude with a sword".
