I'm expecting the 6 spells per level in the basic game will likely get plenty of flak.

It is pretty iconic of DnD from 1st through 3rd that Wizards had a large choice of spells.

When they say 6 spells per level in the basic game, that shouldn't be taken to mean 6 spells per level in the core product. More than likely, one of the modules in the core product will be a wider selection of spells.

Right now, it sounds like they're focusing on getting the iconic spells right.

But which 6 are the "iconic" ones?
Magic missile?
Burning hands?
Shocking grasp?
Mage armor?
Featherfall?
Detect magic?

I can't be the only one who doesn't think damage spells like fireball are very magical. I would hate to see the focus put into mostly those, while the cool spells fall into obscurity.

Some of the comments on how they're interpreting that feedback made me nervous. On more than one occassion, they basically stated that they ignore what people say (what editions they prefer, the fact that they don't like something) because they know how to REALLY interpret the feedback.

This is actually a pretty important thing for them to do. The problem is that to do this properly, they have to be able to filter out their own bias AND be able to figure out underlying issue.

As a side note, it would be really nice if they included these in a format that doesn't assume you use iTunes.

I own no Apple products and iTunes is a terrible thing to install on a Windows machine. They really need to stick to more universal stuff instead of something that's OS-biased.

If 5e gives you 6 spells to choose from at each level, that's hardly different from the 12 "1st level spells" that you got to choose from in BD&D at 1st and 2nd levels, and the 12 "2nd level spells" that you could choose from at 3rd & 4th level, etc.
