Eberron + Dark Sun = Stargate. Discuss.

If magic can't do it, then psi probably shouldn't either.

OTOH, for purposes of this campaign, you could just take thë approach that- like in Stargate proper- we're just talking about planets, not planes.

Well, sure. But it seems like if the Eberron side could keep in magical contact with their Forged on the other side, they'd immediately know what happened to them, or at least, know that some hostile force is there.

... which then brings into question whether or not the Eberron group of explorers/sages/military men would continue sending them through.

So from this standpoint, I'd need to figure out at what point the PC's get involved in the story. I already decided that the PC's will be the first to uncover the artifact (The Annulus) and either a) schlep it back to the powers in charge or b) opt to figure it out on their own.

if a), then the secret group of whoever figure it out and start sending Forged through as I imagined.

if b), then the PC's are the first group through ever and 'Stargate: The Movie' happens.

However, also if b), depending on how long I decide to make time pass, someone else may discover this artifact. Then, I can either start A) or start C) House Jurasco finds it and starts 'hunting' for the persons who found it first... just to tie up loose ends.

I realize this is starting to sound more like a plot than a series of adventures, but I want to at least have an idea of what could happen as a result of PC actions and narrow it down to the most likely options.

While you can't predict PC behaviour, you CAN limit their options. ;)

Sorry- wasn't clear! I'm into psi/magic equivalence. So I would say that the Eberronians would be able to figure SOME kind of magic that works.

But just because it works doesn't mean it works perfectly. Even the robots in the Stargate series didn't have full-time 360deg sensing... And some kind of anti-magic area would disrupt communication as well.

You could borrow some plot from Vecna Lives!- in it, the players are supposed to run the Council of Mages on an adventure to take down Vecna in his lair. [sblock]As they are confronting the lich, the REAL Vecna drops a Time Stop on the area, destroying his imposter and slaying all of the trapped archmages. The players then play through the adventure using their own PCs while the Council regens via their clones.[/sblock]

In the alternative, the module says to just show them those events via a magical spell, thanks to Mordenkainen.

You could easily do the same with this setup.

In 4e, I believe that All Powers Are The Same so there's no mechanical 'issue' regarding psi/magic transparency...

Unless I say there is. *lol*

Still, now I have to figure out what kind of fun adventures there can be in the desert.

There is always the desert itself to start with.

And as you pointed out, any metal those from Eberron may be carrying, wearing or...well...being...will attract attention on Athas.

Funny story. I actually ran the DoD way back in my 2ed days. It was a weird adventure but I found it to be well laid-out and quite interesting. I'd have to update it to 4e standards.

Edit: No, I didn't. I ran some desert/tomb adventure that featured albino humans who had darkvision. It was also 1e, as I recall.

Edit Edit: Turns out it was B4 - The Lost City. Yay Google.

You're right, it is... but I assumed there would be some common theme elements. Maybe there isn't. I really don't know as I've never seen an Al-Qadim supplement in my life. But it will be interesting reading all the same.
