D&D 5E Wandering Monsters: Through the Vast Gate

The foulspawn feel distinctly "4th ed" to me. You can practically see the combat roles and encounter design dripping off them. Also, the name doesn't evoke "far realm" to me - it sounds Abyssal.

I suppose that's not really a problem, but that's my reaction.

They actually first reared their creepy heads in 3.5; I think they were in- maybe Lords of Madness?

Yes, the Gibberish mouther and some Foulspawn as described sound more Moorcock Chaos than Lovecraft Horror.

Agreed, but I like the Far Realms as being a bit of both.

I really would like to see a 5e uvuudaum.

My bad, I thought we were talking about that thing.

For foulspawn, according to the official monster index, they don't exist until 4e. That was updated at the end of 2007, so there may have been a handful of books after that, but August 2008 was when 4e was released, so there wouldn't have been much...

I have liked all the WM up until this one, first of all, foulspawn are cheesy and lame (and grue are elementals), I do not want tainted people with video game names, I dismiss them right away, the gibbering mouther is a classic, and this is messing with their history/lore, big time, I say they stick with the Lords of Madness, Elder Evils action.

The best part was reading Bruce Cordell.

I love foulspawn....mine tend to warp space randomly...well, some can control that, and some is random......the also tend to come with terrain when found in numbers.

Hmm, maybe it's the half-farspawn I'm thinking of?

After doing some looking, I can't find my MM5, but some people online point out a remarkable resemblance to the ushemoi, as well; it could be them that I'm thinking of (a simple name change or rewrite or something).
