D&D 5E Wandering Monsters: Rosemary's Baby

It just occurred to me that how they are proposing to use Succubi reminds me of how Pathfinder used Kytons, making them thier own Cenobite like race by mixing traditional Kyton devil lore, with the Shadow Plane, and influnces from the Cenibites and mad scientist/self surgery horror stories, to make a really cool race of fiends.

So the Bi branch off, which opens up the possiblities of Succubi subraces, and even a Tiefling subrace descended from Succubi, seperate from those descended from the Hells or the Abyss.

Most disappointing article to date, Succubi are demons, and their lord is Malcanthet, who has her own Abyssal layer.

This makes them like a watered down Yugoloth, and Night Hags kick it with devils. not demons.

If we're going to group succubi into tribes, I'd rather do it In Nomine style. They all start out as independents, but their services are in demand and many/most of them wind up working for certain fiendish masters.

Although now that I think of it, this would lead certain powerful demons to enslave succubi. If that doesn't happen, there's a reason - in In Nomine it's because Lilith protects them, even the ones who don't serve her.

I agree - I still don't understand their motivation for why they feel that succubi need to be changed from being demons in the first place.

In 4e devils were all about corrupting, and demons were about destroying. The methods used by succubi made them align better with devils than demons.

The purpose it is to make a compromise between 4e devil succubi and previous editions demon succubi. They can still kick it with demons.

Traditionally (in real world myths) Succubi are demons, so I'm a little annoyed at the change. But only a very little. More annoying, as usual, are the way the poll answers are written. One of them I didn't even respond to because the bulk of the answer, after the yes/no part, wasn't something I agreed with. (My answer would have been basically, yes, but for this reason, not the one you provided.)

Klaus hit the meat of the argument, in that demons were more focused on destruction while devils were more about corruption. The other part of it, I think, is that devils tended to have more humanoid forms, while demons are all over the map.

Personally, I like the idea of them acting as a separate agent. It makes them like mercenaries of evil, lending their particular expertise to either side.
