D&D (2024) What Monster Should Have Made the Cut?

Gem Dragons and Eye of the Deep (Aquatic Beholder). The main classics otherwise appear to be there. Hopefully we'll get more books later to fill in other lost classic monsters.

Personally I'm not all the fussed by the "class" types... cultist, acolyte cleric...etc. Ditch those and put more monsters in. I'd rather have templates back.

On a first scan, the two most glaring omissions for me (after of course Elder Brains, as already mentioned) are Inevitables and Red Caps. Some of my favorite encounters I've ever designed/ran centered around one of these

Well, after a precursory run through, there's nothing missing I would add, and I'd remove about 20% of what's in there.

Don’t have it but from what i know, i would’ve added Gem dragons and some neutral-evil archfiends/celestial paragons

I'm just hoping we see an updated MotM with 2024-style stat blocks, with additions from othe products (Bigby's and Fizban's most notably).

So, if it had been up to you, what non-2014 MM monsters should have made the cut for the 2024 MM? Why?

none, the 2014 MM ones are set already, so there is only limited space anyway.

I am expecting an updated MotM further down the line, that can pick up additional monsters from the various adventures too
