At the moment it's a Horrible Black Void.

I'm finding it rather curious - and suspicious.

I've been assuming they're launching Next at GenCon with all the fanfare and hullabaloo they can muster.

But 2012 and 2013 weren't exactly action-packed on the D&D release front, so it's certainly possible they'll have another slow year. All I'm aware that they have coming out is a bunch of Sundering books and, presumably, some more system-neutral adventures to go with them.

Horrible Black Void? Is it WotC's new SciFi horror game? Oh, only a figure of speech...

I find it curious, too. If Next is to debut in the not too far future, there should have been an announcement or, at least, a leak. Printing and distribution takes some time and you would want to have pre-order numbers before your print order. Yes, very suspicious.

Although not action-packed, there's still been a steady stream of products (mostly reprints). Six AD&D hardcovers. Three 2E hardcovers. Five 3E hardcovers. The White Box set. Two multi-system adventures. Dungeon tiles. Looking back on it, it hasn't been inconsequential.

January 2014 is the 40th anniversary of the LBBs... so you would assume that even a mismanaged organisation like WotC D&D would have something to sell to celebrate the fact... wouldn't they?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's a campaign setting. You play the role of a band of adventurers who entered the black gaping maw of a green demonic visage found on the wall of an ancient tomb ...

Looking back on it, it hasn't been inconsequential.

I haven't heard of anything. Would be nice to see reprints of either the Rules Cyclopedia or the Mentzer Red Box (mostly because that's where I got started).
