Favorite D&D Retroclone?

Since I still have most of my 1981 D&D B/X material, that's my go-to old-school game. If players need rules, I steer them to Labyrinth Lord and everything meshes fine. I like the simplicity of Swords & Wizardry and I play it every chance I get, but as a DM I prefer the more developed version that became B/X over OD&D. I swap B/X, LL, and S&W monsters back and forth without batting an eye. (I even use the S&W Monster Book with D&D Next, just by running some quick mental conversions on the numbers.)

I was going to chime in with castles and crusades, but it doesn't really mean anything since its the only retro clone i own and have read! and thats cause i got it for cheap at the used book store. but it is a pretty good game, i like it alot. To me it feels like DnD 2.5 its somewhere in between second and third edition, but with an old school feel to it.

My fav is S&W Complete, but I love the DCC adventures and have been converting them on the fly.

BFRPG is a damn good choice too.

My ACKS game has been going for about a year now. I like a lot of the OSR games, but ACKS is my fav. The domain rules, the Mortal Wound (and Tampering with Mortality) table, the simpler-than-skills-and-feats Proficiency system. Plus the class and spell creation rules in the Companion are great.

LotFP & DCCC RPG, that's my choice.

- Though DCCC RPG, it seemed more like an Addendum to D&D, than like a real stand-alone.

"AD&D 3" by Christopher Perkins is pretty cool. I prefer it to Castles & Crusades.

Diaglo's OD&D is unreal. My own version of OD&D mixed with the rest of the game that followed up until 2e is pretty good though.

I have all the older games already, sometimes multiple times over. There's no reason for me to get a retroclone.

However, it's very close, and can be considered a retroclone of types....my favorite hands down is Castles and Crusades.

Not counting the "pure" retro-clones that replicate old editions (BLUEHOME™, etc. ), my favourite would have to be LotFP. Not for the notorious "weirdness" but because it's a very neat system.

The best retroclone by far is Myth & Magic. Because it's the only one I know that got rid of that rediculous THAC0 and descending AC, and simply used increasing bonuses for attack rolls and saving throws.
