D&D 5E A simple question about proficiency and damage

I am having a memory fit. Is proficiency added to damage as well as attack rolls in the latest public playtest? Will it stay that way in the final version?

So am I correct that:
  • Attack roll = d20 + appropriate ability modifier + proficiency modifier; and
  • Damage roll = weapon/spell damage + appropriate ability modifier + proficiency modifier

Proficiency modifier is not added to damage. Also, spell damage is not modified by spell ability (unless the spell says otherwise).

OK thank you. I don't know why I started to think it was. So that which determines the increase of damage output is simply the weapons' increases specified at certain levels, and that's about it?

Also, the strength mod is added to most melee damage, and the dex mod is added to ranged damage, but a wizard's intel mod is not added to spell damage? I don't know why my brain suddenly decided to get all of this confused.

Attacks get extra damage from stats, spells do not. Spells only improve when casted at a higher level. Remember, the hardest a fighter will be hitting is 2d6+5, maybe an extra +1-3 from a magical weapon. They can do that four times per round.

A Wizard can drop a 12d6 meteor shower and pretty much everything in sight.
