Pathfinder 1E Portable Hole to Escape Prison

Aggressive Sock

First Post
In our pathfinder game, my friend and I are in a pickle.

We are stuck in a Reaver camp, in 2 "holding cells" next to each other. The cells are stone walled, with furniture, toilet, door, and window with bars approx. 3" apart.

I've racked my brain on how to get out alive, here's my idea to escape.

I am playing a level 9 Fetchling Ninja, and my friend is a level 8 Gnome Alchemist. So ninja tricks and basic supplies are still at my disposal. I have a portable hole, that they did not take, which contains several supplies ranging from weapons, thieves tools, to potions and a full on alchemist lab.

My plan is this, and I want your opinion on whether you think it will work:

I take my silk rope, and tie my Bag of Holding to it. I throw the rope to my friend's hand sticking out the other window. He pulls the Bag of Holding to him. Then, I place the Portable Hole on the ground, tie a corner to the rope, I proceed to get into the Portable Hole, then close it. Then, my friend pulls the cloth through the bars from the room I was in. He unties the cloth, proceeds to hang the cloth outside of the window against the wall, I climb out, then close the Portable Hole. Then, he passes me the Bags of holding out the window. I re-tie the Portable Hole cloth to the rope, he pulls it up through the window. He repeats what I did, lays it on the ground, gets in, closes it, I pull the cloth through the window down to the ground. Lay it out, he gets out. We close the hole, I take it. We run.

Thoughts?

With 10 minutes of air each time, that's sufficient enough to not suffocate in the times in the hole. The whole process shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes to begin with.

This is a big leap of faith, but I've given tons of time into thinking of how we might escape with our lives intact. Unfortunately, our weapons were taken and placed in a chest. So those will be left behind. However, we can always return another day, using invisibility, to quickly sneak in, and grab the stuff, and then either use a teleportation scroll or something of the sort to escape quickly. We could just put the chest in a bag of holding most likely.

Regardless, living is the key to anything else happening, so what do you think of the plausibility to this certain approach I am hoping to try?

This sounds like a solid plan. There are a few definite things that lend to this working:
-you can get inside the portable hole.
-the portable hole can make it through the bars.
-another person can open the portable hole for you to climb out of.

Those parts are solid. Now, I'm pretty sure you can tie a corner of portable hole to a rope, it is a clothlike object sometimes, but talk to your DM about if you can pass in and out of the opening while at the same time a portion of the opening is tied to a rope. I'd allow it, but this might be a little fuzzy. Some interpretations of the use of portable hole require it to be completely open and smooth in order to pass in and out of, so crumpling one part to tie around and rope while using the rest to climb thru might not be allowable.

Is the Bag of Holding part of the plan for squeezing, or is that just a ballast to throw the rope? perhaps a rock would serve the purpose just as well. Your small sized Gnome buddy might fit into the opening of the bag of holding and be passed thru the bars as well as or better than the portable hole.

I like the cleverness, have fun!

Is it possible to close the hole yourself while in it? I thought I remember reading somewhere on here that someone said you could . That is where the idea that you could conceivably tie the rope to an end came from.

This is definitely the flaw in an otherwise really clever plan; I would have issues with this as a dungeon master. But I think the solution is pretty simple: if the furniture in the room includes a bed, just tear the cloth off the mattress, put the hole on the cloth, then tie the cloth to the rope.

I assumed the Bag was being tossed because the ninja couldn't carry it into the Hole without, y'know, ending the world. :)
