Only one table and no experience points = harder to DM

Well, at first glance I am envious of those who are going to run this module in Encounters with multiple tables. This module seems perfect for a convention setting with many tables all playing simultaneously.

That being said, I am going to run this module at home with only one player team. Herein lies the problem. The module encourages me, as a DM with only one player team, to have an NPC team assisting in the first scenario. This seems like it will quickly become unwieldy (with 5 PC's, 4 NPC's, and up to 10 monsters all acting in initiatives).

Then there is the matter of advancing in level. The previous module (Scourge of the Sword Coast) at least gave me exact markers as to when to have the players advance. Dead in Thay wants me to give out one level about every 25 rooms. I really wish they would have allowed me to give out experience points and have the players keep track of their experience.

Terradave there are at least 105 rooms in the main dungeon. But there are ten more before you ever get to that point. It definitely reminds me of Undermountain in scope. Which brings me to another point: this is supposed to be a module for characters from 6th level through 8th level... If I am supposed to hand out a level every 25 rooms, my PC's are going to sail through the last half of the module.

Maybe you are not expected to do all of them (I wouldn't!).

So you do 75...first 25 to 7, next 25 to 8, last 25 to 9, but you are done.

I am guessing that was the intent.

though I would also probably just do straight up XP or do it by major milestones that would award for something other then going through lots of rooms.

Nope, they are saying that if you go with the 25 rooms per level you will have a party that is higher level than 9 in the final part of the module and that it's ok.

Its expected you do all the rooms?

Nope.

Btw, I like the magic items in here, Especialy the staf, it s a new and interesting way to go with classical wizard staffs in 5e and I realy dig it, instead of making the wizard more powerful it makes him more versatile and slightly more powerful.
