Like a PF or 3.5 D&D fighter falling 150ft and standing up to walk away from it

Or a rogue getting hit by a 30ft blast of fire in a 10ft hall way and taking no damage

Or a PF gunslinger useing his grit to do things no one else can do

Or non magic rage

If that is non traditional bug still magic then I say fighters always have been

There are super-heroes who can do these things... but not all superheroes who can do these things use magic...

I agree a 4e fighter is no more magical then batman and 4e warlord is no more magical then captain america

Too bad the books don't define it that way... good thing the only requirement for an extraordinary ability is that it is not magical and thus can be the result of nearly any explanation that doesn't include magic...

EDIT: I honestly think the definition of extraordinary ability in 3.5/PF fits @pemerton 's interpretation much better than the definition given in 4e of martial power...

Every power they use is magical... just not in the traditional sense.
Indeed. You can start right in the PHBI with the fighter power that allows them to do triple (or 3[W], or whatever) damage once a day. In every relevant sense, this is a magical ability. In a previous edition, it would have been referred to as a smite attack and been given appropriate mechanical descriptors. In 4e, it's a martial power. In no edition is that not a magical action.
