Reporting?

If I play Lost Mine at home, and track on record sheet, how do I report it...like, right now?

Ok, I'm very confused. The AL website doesn't explain things very well. My background is as a player and DM back when I played Living Greyhawk. I skipped LFR. Back in LG RPGA, as a DM you could just go to the RPGA website and download adventures. You play, record sessions and report on the site. How is this done now? All information seems to say the store organizer gives out this material to DMs. How do DMs become DMs? No judge test?

D&D Encounters....is this just short 1-2 hours of play? Is D&D Expeditions more like the Living Greyhawk adventures that are around 4 hours?

All good questions! The reporting mechanism for stores is the normal WPN method (the store will know tall about the Event Reporter tool, which will be streamlined for D&D in the future). As noted in the article on the web site, you report it as a "D&D Casual Event".

If running it at a different location, you don't need to report it yet. There will be a way to report it in the future.

In both cases players still fill out their log sheet. If running at a store, the store can order certificates (see the same article for information).

For Lost Mines, buy the Starter Set, run it, fill out log sheets (the way you might have in year 1 of LG, and somewhat similar to the ARs in later LG years). Divide treasure equally, note any magic, and sign off.

For Expeditions, order them for public play (or through a store), run them, sign off on log sheets, note any magic, etc.

There is no DM test, and hasn't been for years. If working with a store, talk to them and make sure they are following the solicitation information (a WPN store will know all about this), tell them you want to DM, get their help identifying a time and finding players, and play. You can begin play before any certificates arrive - certificates just enable trading of one cert for another between players.

If you want to run in a public place you will need to request the adventures (no link yet), get the public place to sign off, and the rest is similar to the store situation. You will need to report the results when the reporting tool is available.

Encounters uses the published main adventure (Hoard of the Dragon Queen) and is 1-2 hours of play. Expeditions is more like the traditional LG/LFR 4-hour format, correct.

I've a quick question: I'm part of a group of DMs who are students at a Job Corps facility (all of us new to organized play), with an ample residential student population (and a surprising number interested in D&D). While the campus is usually closed off away from people who aren't parents, would it be possible for us to sign up for D&D Expeditions for any student who'd want to play?

An admin would need to say for sure, but I think with a large student body (and parents) this would qualify.

You have two options Annandul, you can contact a store and see if they'll order the Expeditions adventures for you and you'll get item certificates (which allow trading) or you can ask game support for the adventures.

If you get them through a store they'll be able to get adventures each month, if you go through game support as a game-day you'll have to ask each time you have a game-day.

DragonCon gaming registration is open. I know from an ealier AL announcement, that there are supposed to be Expeditions (and hopefully a replay of the GenCon Epic). Unfortunately, none of those events are in the system yet. I would really like to be able to split my time there between D&D and other games, but while I wait to see when D&D events will be offered, those other games are already filling up. Any idea when these events will find their way to the DragonCon system?
