D&D 5E Blingdenstone with PHB

I haven't wanted to comment much on 5e until my Player's Handbook finally arrives (it's due Thursday), but I did want to ask this:

Do people think the Blingdenstone adventure from the playtest would be viable just by replacing the monsters with their current versions? Or would much more thought need to be put into it?

When I ran it during the playtest, the monsters went down much too easily and were worth way too much XP. I understand those things have been fixed. But by the same token, am I going to be overwhelming my group if I use the same numbers of the new monsters?

Thats an interesting question, why don't you try to use the BD&D DM guides to check this out,.

I don't remember the adventure level, was it for first level characters? Yu might want to change time of the critters to easier one, either that or simply run it for 3rd level characters...

I think it should run fairly fine, but, it's an easy adventure for the players to get overwhelmed.

The first battle with the orcs you can test it out and use just what is listed in the adventure and see how the players handle it. From there you can remove a critter or add where needed.

Remember creatures don't always have to fight to the death. Have them retreat and play up the tension that they may comeback soon. They might just be regathering their forces to counterattack.

It was a fun adventure to run but you have to playup that this is a cavernous town under siege at any moment the town could be overrun!

If they push forward without resting a lot you might want to lower the number of enemies as the day goes on to give them a chance.

great adventure they should republish it with some nice art.

On the topic of Blingdenstone, I think it would be a great adventure with minimal tweaks. The suggestions up the thread are good; try the orcs at the recommended number and see if you need to add some or remove some.

On another note, I'd strongly suggest taking a look at the updated Chapter 3 put together here: http://kootenaygamer.blogspot.ca/2012/08/more-blingdenstone.html

It's a far better House Center. In addition, there's a great list of primary NPCs and their motivations / personalities, all on one page. And there's a list of random events that could really spice up the adventure.

Happy gaming!

Thanks! This is awesome.

Hmm when I ran it I didnt mind the House Center. The Map I agree was a bit weird but it ran fine in my opinion. But, I'll check out this link.

The optional character who is harassing you is probably the hardest thing to run, because its easy for the players to best her early and you never get a good payoff for her.
