So 4E did not cost WoTC its market share?

It most certainly did.

But I bet they get it back with 5E - at least in the short term.

Regarding a license for 5E though, I think it wouldn't hurt - even if all they license are adventures and campaign settings.

My recollection is that they said Q1 2015.

Here's the link to Mike's article, revised for the new site layout:

"Therefore, we want to share the timeline we're working with. While the details are still in flux, we can say that we plan to announce the details of our plans sometime this fall. After that announcement, we plan on launching our program in early 2015."

Cheers!

It wouldn't have without the OGL allowing another company to use their rule set to continue an older version of the game. That's why you'll never see OGL with 5E or further editions of the game. It was a great idea for the gaming community. Awful idea from a business perspective. Never give anyone a right to your intellectual property when you have a strong market position.

Can we not argue, for the 5000th time, about Pathfinder vs 4e and the OGL and market share and blah blah blah and all that silly stuff? It accomplishes nothing, makes people upset, and isn't the topic anyway.
