I'm planning to run some old forgotten realms modules.
I have tons o ad&d adventures and I want to know if you have done something similar.
did you play straight adventures? did you make some or tons of modifications?
Tell me your experience.
thanks for your time.

I am currently running a campaign based in Hommlet. I have converted T1 and inserted additional adventure locales in the surrounding area. Having a great time with it so far.

My other campaign is set in Mystara and based in Threshold. I haven't converted any specific modules for that one, at least not yet.

During the playtest I ran B1, B3, and L1 unmodified and it worked fine. If I were to do it today I might just keep the Building Encounters section of the DMG or Basic Rules handy and adjust the number of monsters. I'd also tone down magic items to my own taste. That would be about it.

For AD&D modules I have run pretty much out the module; just re-skinning some monster from 5th to match up to the encounter. Re-Skinning is your friend!

Treasure presents no more problem than it did in the past; the same with magic items. Magic items, probably less problem than they did in older editions, since they are balanced on the whole.

If your planning on running a series of them, I might suggest just taking the fighter advancement (or whatever one you want to use from AD&D) and use it as the experience table for the characters. Take the 5th editions monsters HD and use AD&D experience rewards for them by HD, and award gold for xp like in AD&D. That should capture the past edition feel if you want that too.

I am doing one right now. Using monster descriptions from MM, subbing in directly, including NPCs from the back, and just eyeballing the XP and encounter guidelines to make sure that any encounter is roughly inline. For other random dungeon or wilderness features, just remember DC 10 pretty easy, DC 15 moderate DC 20 hard.

Keep on the Borderlands
Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth
White Plume Mountain
GDQ1-7
These were, and continue to be, amazing.
I modify each to "fit" the campaign world (FR), location, and character backgrounds.

I've got a megadungeon written partially in 1e and partially in 4e, and have been running it straight from those notes with no problems.

The portions that I've detailed later are in 5e, but my design style is the same either way.
