D&D 5E 8 hour Long Rest and total Healing up; change it to Roll All "Hit Dice" and add that to Hit Points

Just a follow up to what I posted above.

Given the later editions hit-point-bloat-mania, I'm less inclined to think of Hit Points as Meat, except for the first, and rather explain Hit Points as Vitality/Endurance - it makes more sense given its fast recuperation rate.

If you would like to signify lingering wounds, rather reflect that through the loss of Hit Dice or Ability Damage (Strength/Dexterity/Constitution).

Just for comparison, AD&D used a natural HP recovery rate of 1 hit point per day.

One must not forget that in AD&D, one only benefited from rolling for Hit Points and Constitution modifiers for 9 levels. Furthermore Constitution was rolled for, Constitution modifiers were flatter, there were also no possible Ability Improvements every few levels.

True, but it shouldn't matter if you want to re-employ the rate. They may take longer to return to adventure, but once you're in town if you have a healer you can recover quickly. Getting injured should at least be a little serious.
