D&D 5E Why such little content (books) for Dnd 5e?

I just checked the Wizards Catalog and there really isn't anything more coming out for 5e this year.

Obviously, there could be a bunch of stuff in the works but not announced...but publicly there is nothing really coming/announced other than that chaos/abyss thing later in the year.

Is there another site/location that outlines their roadmap?

I just bought all 3 core books and am excited for more. Anything, really: campaigns, options books, splat books etc....but at this point it looks like 5e RPG table top is dead....

They will probably milk the license cash cow for awhile and the board game angle...but looks like the classic RPG is deader than .... dead...

Hope I am wrong.
The baby is on a respirator (Adventure Paths), but it might as well be stillborn. D&D the PnP RPG is not seen as profitable by itself by WotC/Hasbro. The RPG is barely kept alive as a legacy product to give a modicum of fluff and authenticity to all the licensed products. To paraphrase Nathan Stewart, D&D isn't a RPG. D&D is now a brand.

You are wrong. Obviously you are coming to the party a bit late, but the traditional splat-churning-assembly line of products of the past is no more. the D&D brand is also console and PC video games, boardgames, miniatures, comic books, novels and dice games. Lots is being released, and table-top has to wait its turn.

Prepare yourself for something better in terms of quality and content, and learn to excercise patience, channel Yoda and play the various APs they have released, I assure you, you have a couple years worth of adventures to play/DM before you need to worry about what the next book is. Wizards wants you to play and use their books, not put them on a shelf to gather dust.

Welcome to 5e.

Wow.... a lot of speculative drivel with no real world basis....

DnD is *more* than just an RPG. DnD is *also* now a brand. (Which has been true for a long time actually.....)

Many people don't want an endless font of crunch books coming out..... WotC has decided to go with that business model. This isn't a baby on a respirator, its a healthy game system that is not relying on a constant spam of content to try and stay afloat.'

On a serious note, if you are looking for the same kind of support since the late 70s through every edition, you best get over that idea.

For my own part, I am not interested in splat or more crunch. I can get by on the LBBs or Moldvay/Cook/Marsh, 5eBasic or Essentials. I would like to see a MM2, and stand alone adventures are what I absolutely need (whether a print product or something like DDI Dungeon mag) Seems the monster support will be done within the APs. And if you want adventure or setting material, APs seem to be the only medium for the time being. If you have no use for APs like myself, pounding sand seems to be the suggestion from people who do like the current business model (and the reason for my earlier tongue in cheek comment)

My suggestion: Check out Goodman Games as they are currently running a very successful KS for adventures and are surveying backers for how to support 5e going forward. Also Frog God/Necromancer has some splat books and adventure collections. Russ is doing some kind of subscription for 5e articles too here on the site.

Ok, I was serious BTW :)

I have been out of it for awhile so I was not clear what the direction of 5e was--some of you cleared that up for me, thanks!

I bought the 3 core books and have played maybe 30-40 hours with them so far, not much. But I was looking for more material, but it looks like it will be much later, if ever at all.

Last time I played was 3.5, skipped 4.e and now have a group that does 5e every other week or so.

Seems like they are doing the anti-pathfinder route--which is an interesting business strategy. Like some said, treating it more like a brand instead of an RPG. Like that one guy (famous dnd guy) got hired back as a contractor to work on license material (organization) so video games and other companies have an easier time to access...wtf?? But, honestly, as you guys have pointed out that probably makes more money than splat book of the 3.5 era.

Thanks again and happy gaming! I seriously wasn't trying to troll!!!

But if I put on my jerk hat...I personally think this strategy is frickin stupid--we at a minimum need:

Planar Guide for travelling the planes and gear to go with it (and yes someone who played AdnD 1e I have a right to request this so lick my b#lls)
1 solid, detailed Campaign setting (FR, Greyhawk who cares but we need at least 1)
Fiend Folio (or more monster books in general, DnD needs way more monsters, wth!!!)

If they just release these 3 core books then a bunch of adventures, 5e will be more quickly dead than 4e, what a waste.

Wow.... a lot of speculative drivel with no real world basis....
Nathan Stewart's interview, Jeremy Crawford's, not to mention tweets and the likes, are all in the real world. So is WotC's release calendar for D&D.

They told us we are getting one or two APs a year. No speculation here.

Many people don't want an endless font of crunch books coming out.....
And I never said that. That is called a strawman.

WotC has decided to go with that business model.
So, your going from what I said is "speculative drivel" to it is their "business model". Interesting. Like you are trying to have you cake and eat it too.

Personally, I'd rather they stay the course they're on right now. Keep the core books valid by refusing to shower us with splatbooks, toss out some Unearthed Arcana every now and again for flavor, churn out a big adventure module a couple times a year.

If I could bend things to my personal whim, I'd have MORE adventure modules of varying lengths and levels, conversions and re-sales of classic adventure paths, and some open licenses for the 3rd party publishers.

Yes, WoTC (I know you have some intern reading this) I WILL PAY YOU MONEY for the products mentioned above. I will be driven off from the hobby and DENY YOU MONEYS if you turn this into a splatbook boondoggle.

Please keep 5th edition simple, accessible, and fun.
