I say "Seriously, he does the same thing every week. I'm wondering if I even want him to come anymore."
Despite your level of frustration, this was unnecessary.

It may have sounded fairly tame to your ears--merely an explanation for a long time of repeated behavior. But, to his girlfriend, it sounded like a personal attack or public shaming. It likely would have been best to merely let him go, ask the other two if they wished to go with him or keep playing, and then do whatever made sense after that.

If your friend can salvage that relationship, then cool. Perhaps in the future, you can say stuff like, "Are you sure you want to do that? Kobolds are stupid, but they're not going to shout 'we are kobolds' when pelting humans with rocks," or "The bandits don't seem to be saying anything about kobolds. It even looks like the one bandit is mimicking exactly how you shouted, (PC)," and give him a chance to rethink his plans. In fact, "Are you sure you want to do that?" is a time-tested DM device to inform players that what they are about to do is really stupid without actually saying it's stupid.

If so, this is the most dramatic thing I've seen on ENworld. Granted, I haven't been here long. What happened?

OP must deliver!

Unless Manbearcat's location is out of date, then Florida is pretty damn far away from the 'Peg (over 30 hour drive.....I've done it in less, but not by much)......just saying.....

Cheers,
Colin

Clearly I did a wicked crap job throwing that together.

Erhmm...

But he is especially bad when I DM. When I first met him he rubbed me the wrong way as I mention in a previous post. He said a lot of kinda dumb things and dumb people are kind of my pet peeve. Once someone says something incomprehensibly stupid I tend to view everything they say through that lens. He managed to trigger my stupid meter 5 times a week for 4 months straight. I complained to my friends about it because I didn't know him well and it helped me cope with playing with him again the next week. He didn't know since I never said anything to his face, so everyone got along.

Then, my friend, his gf now, started dating him and told him pretty much everything I had ever said about him. He's held it against me since then so he will assume everything I say is a slight against him.

This rather changes the entire context of the situation.

It does, but it still doesn't explain MO's assertion that the reported behavior occurs in everyone's games- to a greater or lesser degree- including that gamer's own GF's. I mean, if you're acting like a jackass when your GF is your GM...

It also doesn't explain why a guy would ditch his friends, and girlfriend, and leave like a toddler throwing a tantrum. The only conclusion I can come to is that everyone in this situation is immature and has issues. Issues that D&D can't fix.
