To work more hours!

http://news.yahoo.com/jeb-bush-people-longer-hours-235206730.html

It seems he thinks people are working fewer hours, voluntarily. What is he ingesting? Last I checked, unless you're self-employed, your bosses tell you how many hours you can work in a week, not the other way around.

According to the article:

1) a 2014 Gallup poll showed most Americans reported working 47-50 hours per week.

2) the OECD reports Americans work more hours/week on average than in any other modern, industrialized nation.

3) 6.5 million people are working part time ONLY because that is the only employment they can get.

One of my cousins is among them- he has a part-time job that was damn near the only one not taken in the neighborhood...and they barely give him double-digit hours. And yet, they continue to try to hire more part-time employees. They won't give him full-time work.

Bah, if he was really conservative, he'd point out that the reason that people who want to work full time aren't getting it is because of Big Government interfering with businesses by mandating things like healthcare for those who work full time. ;) Someone needs to get that man a better policy advisor.

Productivity is already vastly outpacing wage increases in this country. Productivity is not the thing that is holding up growth (which isn't even that held back compared to nations on austerity). Not being able to spend money because our jobs can get away with paying us less than we're worth (and because the healthcare system is still a roaring fire, despite the two or three water balloons that the ACA tossed on it) is the thing holding up growth.

Well, I would like to be working more, but that's just because I'm currently unemployed.

But when I WAS working full time, I would NOT have wanted to have worked more. Working more would have DECREASE my productivity because I would more quickly become burnt out.

People literealy died fighting for the 8 hour work day and the 40 hour week. It might be far from perfect, but those do really protect workers.

Scott Walker and Wisconsin Republicans are about to take away worker's ability to take weekends off. Even one day off.

56. One Day of Rest in Seven. Include the provisions of 2015 AB 118 to permit an employee to state in writing that he or she voluntarily chooses to work without one day of rest in seven. Specify the provision first apply to union contracts on the day the collective bargaining agreement expires, or is extended, modified, or renewed, whichever comes first. [Currently every factory or mercantile employer must allow each employee 24 hours of rest in every consecutive seven days, except for certain emergency circumstances. The requirement does not apply to janitors, security staff, bakeries, restaurants, hotels and certain dairy or agricultural plants]

And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hearing Republicans saying they are working for the general population, freedom, less state, etc, is not even funny anymore.

From across the pond. It's still kind of funny. Then I think about going back to the States and it's kinda sad. But for now...haha.

Remember, he is from Florida...retirement location in the U.S. maybe he is thinking about them, I hear they are a big voting block, with many with hearing problems. :)

I think at this point, the only currently declared GOP candidate who hasn't said something that- to me- puts them at or over the line for disqualification for getting my vote is Marco Rubio. This is problematic for me.

Give it time.

So, is there any audio/video that shows him saying what the articles says he said? Not to defend him, (I know jack squat about him at this time, and really don't yet care about any campaign), but the article quotes are pretty tightly cut, and in one case uses 3 (three, odd, not even) quotation marks. When any article is so surgically precise with short quotes, it makes me wonder what actually came before and after the quotation marks.

Both sides of the political media does this. "America has failed at times, but it always gets back up and tries again until it succeeds," becomes the headline: "POLITICIAN SAYS 'AMERICA HAS FAILED'"
