We should call up Tim Schafer to get permission to use Psychonaut.

My serious answer is another vote for psychic. It's a common term that can evoke feeling for a wide range of powers.

Buttheads, of course.

I vote for "psion," "adept," or "mentalist." The boundaries of fantasy were not laid down for all time by J.R.R. Tolkien; science fantasy has a proud history in D&D, all the way back to the very first ever D&D setting, which featured a crashed spaceship and laser weapons.

Psion. Rhymes with "scion". :D

I'm not too keen on the "Immortal" name, though. Immortals in D&D are epic Basic characters.

My vote is for Channeler, Psion, Adept, or Mentalist. Though really I would prefer they just buy the rights from Katherine Kurtz to call them Deryni and go full-fluff flavor on them. Kurtz might even do it as a free joint venture, given it would renew interest in her books in a new generation.

Psion sucks for two reasons. 1: it's a made-up word that means nothing outside of D&D, and 2: it's homophonous with an unrelated real-life word that comes up a lot in fantasy. The first time someone suggested that I play a psion, I immediately wondered, "Scion of what?"

Psionicist is just too awkward to pronounce. Also, it's a made-up word that means nothing outside of D&D.

Mystic has many connotations, none of which have anything to do with psionics. Not a great fit.

Psychic seems perfect to me. It's a real word, it's easy to pronounce, and it clearly expresses the concept that it represents.
