Pathfinder 1E Sword of Valor, Wrath of the Righteous AP Part 2 with your hosts Scotley and MLeibrock

Arles Jhestander bows his head in shame. "Pray for me Sir Knight. I let my faith be shaken. You have given me hope again. I will fight with you." He claps forearms with you and smiles for the first time in a long time.

OOC: Nicely done. The adventure gives us the option of allowing an automatic success for a good speech here or a DC 23 check. You were doubly successful.

Morning finally comes and the world seems just a little less bleak today. Camp is quickly broken and soon you move out. Your desitination is the Vilareth Ford--the northernmost crossing point on the West Sellen. Few settlements and no fords or bridges exist farther north from here on the Mendev side of the river. Named for the crusader general who first held the ford against a host of tiefling cultists eager to use it as an invasion point, Vilareth Ford has long been watched over by a small contingent of crusaders-yet as the PCs approach the ford, their scouts come racing south to intercept the army about 15 minutes before the ford is in sight, bearing grim news. Vilareth Ford has been taken by the enemy! The bulk of the crusaders who once protected the place are dead, and their heads and entrails now decorate the bunkerlike structures that line the river's east bank. Reports are that an army of perhaps 200 Tieflings is still encamped at the site and appear to be enjoying a bit of relaxation after the battle. They do not appear to be aware of your approach.
GM:
This is an opportunity to try out the mass combat rules.

"I have an idea: Why don't I take our spellcasting artillery and organize them into three batteries? The laft and right batteries will cast magic missile or as close to that as each wizard, sorerer, or other mage knows, with each missile being directed at a separate Tiefling foe in an effort not to kill, but rather to injure, harrass, and distract. And who knows, some may get lucky and actually kill a few of them. The center battery will hold back more behind our defensive lines to both bolster our ranks with defensive spells and to cause more damage and mayhem within the ranks of the enemy not by casting spells directly at the enemy, but by causing pits to open beneath their feet and great gouts of water to extinguish their fires. Maybe we/they could even swell our ranks by adding a few illusory regiments to dismay and confuse the enemy."

Banaq is nonplussed by thorn's observation, "I was under the impression that Sir Sheldon was deploying the Paladins as he saw fit. If there are any Paladins who are trained in the arcane arts, then I shall be happy to have their assistance, as will Lia. There is, unfortunately, insufficient time to train those not already proficient with the spells necessary. I'm sure you understand." The Sorcerer says this with no inflection in his voice, as if he had already considered the possibility of running mass magic missile classes for all, and had regretfully decided against it at the last moment.

Banaq is a bit miffed by Thorn's flippant, dismissive comment when he was at least trying to do something useful to feel a bit less like :):):):) on a boar hog. And that is precisely how Banaq rates his own performance on this entire expedition so far. But he is unwilling to allow any rift in the leadership to be seen by any observers. "Remember, Thorn, we are far from secure here. There is potentially a demon under every rock and a devil behind every blade of grass. We would all do well to make every word that we speak do something to further our cause."

All trace of mirth, mocking as it is, fades from Thorn's face as Banaq appears to be...lecturing her.

"Oh, is that so?" she growls. "You want the words I speak to further our cause? All right then. I can oblige that."

Thorn moves over to Banaq, glaring at him steadily as she goes, until they're face to face.

"Get your head on straight. Think before you open your mouth. And when you find you've dug yourself into a hole, stop digging."

Meanwhile, Sheldon is probably amongst his sub-commanders getting a lay of the land and developing a war plan.

ooc: Can I get a pic of the geograpy/plaement?

"Fine. And while you're at it, Thorn, kindly blow it out your a$$. Screw this nonsense, I'm going home."

Banaq gathers his belonings and sets off homeward. He gets about 50 yards and remembers what he is there to do. He turns back around and returns to the camp, making certain to pitch his tent as far away from Thorn's area as he can. In fact, he will be outside the area of all of the other PCs, but not too far away. (And he pointedly speaks to none of them. The last they saw of him, he hopes, was his departing back, and he does not wish to correct the impression that he s gone.)

GM:
Oddly, the adventure does not include such a picture or map. It does state that "The ford itself has a large open area where the army could stage a battle-it's currently being used by the tieflings as an encampment. The surrounding terrain can provide concealment if the PCs wish to attempt to ambush the Tieflings." I will get with my co-DM and see what we can come up with.

OOC: You guys have fun. Banaq was a pi$$-poor build, anyway, and would have been zero help to you battling evil outsiders. No hard feelings, Shayuri. Thanks for giving me a chance to save poor Banaq from a certain death.

OOC: Whoa. Um, I hope you know Mike and I well enough to know that we would be happy to work with you on adjusting your character to something you are more comfortable with. Please take a deep breath and consider your choice here.
