Many years ago, as a result of WWII, the Soviets had control of my grandparent's homeland. They had to take their children (my parents) pack what they could, and live as refugees for a while in Germany, and eventually came to the United States.

I am glad to see that some folks still can offer a hand to those in need.

When I was a kid, a few of my friends were kids from Czechoslovakia, whose families had fled ahead of Soviet tanks. A former boss had flown a light plane out of Czechoslovakia, with his family aboard, during the same period. Back then we welcomed them with open arms.

The HS from which I graduated is owned & operated by Cistercian monks who fled Hungary...again, in response to Soviet aggression.
